Today, SweetWater Brewing bottled their 15th-anniversary release – 15 Years of Heady Beers at their brewery in Atlanta, Georgia.

Co-founders Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney were in-house to bottle their special anniversary ale.  The recipe is based on the brewery’s original ESB recipe which happens to be the first beer they released 15 years ago, transformed into a special barleywine-style ale.

It tops out at 10%.  Look for it on shelves in mid-February 2012.

It’s On! Brooklyn & Harpoon Bet On Super Bowl

Brooklyn Brewing’s President Steve Hnidy  & Harpoon Brewing’s Dan Kenary have placed a have placed a friendly beer bet on the Super Bowl.  If the New York Giants win, Harpoon has to pour Brooklyn Lager in their tap room and their staff has to wear Giants jerseys for a week.  If the Patriots win, Harpoon IPA pours in Brooklyn with the staff in Pats jerseys.

Kenary:

“We are very confident that the Patriots will carry the day, and avenge the 2008 loss to the Giants,” said Kenary, who still cringes when he thinks back to pouring Brooklyn Lager four years ago.

Hindy:

“We know the Patriots had a better season record than the Giants. They are a great team,” said Hindy, clearly concerned about appearing over confident. “But the Giants have come together in the post-season. Eli Manning and his team have to keep it together for one more game.”

Just last week, Anchor lost a similar bet with Brooklyn.  The 49ers loss means that Anchor has to pour Sorachi Ace, and wear Giants jerseys.

In Honor Of Can Day, Don’t Miss The Can House

In honor of the first cans of beer being sold today, you should really check out the world famous Beer Can House in Houston, Texas.  John Milkovisch started build the Beer Can house in 1968.  He started landscaping with rocks, metal pieces and concrete before turning to aluminum cans.  Over the next 18 years, Milkovisch covered the entire house in flattened beer cans.  Over 50,000 beer cans.  Talk about drinking dedication.

“He didn’t think anybody would ever be interested in it. He just loved drinking his beer and just loved being outside and cutting up the beer cans.”
