Co-founders Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney were in-house to bottle their special anniversary ale.  The recipe is based on the brewery’s original ESB recipe which happens to be the first beer they released 15 years ago, transformed into a special barleywine-style ale.

It tops out at 10%.  Look for it on shelves in mid-February 2012.

SweetWater Dank Tank 420 IPA Arrives

SweetWater Brewing’s latest Dank Tank Series release 420 IPA has arrived. This most recent release is built off the famed 420 Pale Ale, but bigger. Hoppier. Boozier.

Tingling with excitement, el dank hopped the fur bus and rolled to the panic show at The Fox.  Boogieing down to Chilly Water, he noodled into a cute little wookie that blew his mind and yanked him from some post show get down at the Clermont lounge.  Stumbling and bumbling with blondie, he got booted, and went home for some shut eye.  Dreaming of the wet wookie, he awoke to his dog licking his tongue, realizing he was late for his night shift at SweetWater.

Fumbling through his brew and dry hopping duties, el danko hit the wall, and passed out mid-shift. Waking up to Nick Nock screaming WTF, he frantically ran around putting out fires.  As the haze cleared he realized he had left the mill running, jacking up the OG and dry hopping the wrong tank.  Fuddied up after the most insane 36 hours, el Danko pondered his delirious creation, a chubby 420 India Pale Ale! Huh??? Ducking trouble, he quickly swept the abominable snowman  under the rug, as he sent the 420 IPA to the bottling line boys in an effort to hide his momentoustus F- up.

SweetWater’s Freddy Bensch Named Georgia’s Most Influential

A special congratulations is in order for SweetWater’s Big Kahuna himself Freddy Bensch.  Today he was named one of Georgia’s most influential people.  That puts the brewery founder among some of Georgia’s elite people – like Arthur Blank (Owner, Atlanta Falcons) US Senator Saxby Chambliss, Frank Blake (CEO/Chairman of Home Depot), John Brock (CEO, Coca-Cola) & more.  It’s quite an honor.

Steve Farace of SweetWater writes on the brewery’s blog – [Freddy] joins….The owner of the Falcons — Arthur Blank, US Senator Saxby Chambliss, Chief Justice of Georgia’s Supreme Court — Carol Hunstein, Chuck Leavell of the Rolling Stones and Allman Brothers and a plethora of other movers and shakers in the great state of Georgia!  We can’t wait to share the news with his mom, she’ll be thrilled at what a fine young man her son has turned into. 15 year’s of heady beers for sure, and (allegedly) influencing folks all along the way!! Wait till they get a load of us at the official party next week!

Side note, the solar array as mentioned is still in the works by the brewery.  Just Google Solyndra and you can see how THAT turned out.  SweetWater turns 15 next month, and will be celebrating in style of course. [SweetWater]
