Imperial Stout with Cupcakes? SweetWater Did It

This is a first (at least from what we’ve seen). A stout with Hostess cupcakes. Last night on the tour, the SweetWater crew took their Happy Ending Imperial Stout (available now) and threw it in a cask with Hostess Cupcakes, dubbed Sad Ending. Brings a tear to this fat kid’s heart. Wednesday tours typically have special experimental casks.

SweetWater Closes 2012 With A Happy Ending and Rolls Into 2013 With Big Plans (PR)

ATLANTA (January 8, 2013) — As 2012 came to an end, SweetWater Brewery once again began serving up its fan-favorite winter seasonal, Happy Ending, to thirsty Southeastern locals. Ironically, it’s also been one heck’ova happy ending for the folks at the brewery as they successfully culminated their 15th year of operation, and set their sights towards 2013.

SweetWater sold roughly 110,000-barrels in 2012, a 15% increase over 2011. Most of that growth came from SweetWater’s existing sales footprint, as it wasn’t until the fourth quarter of 2012 that the brewery was able to expand its distribution to various new Southeastern markets including: Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota and Ft. Myers, FL; Rock Hill, SC; and Cookeville and Clarksville, TN. With the help of its recent brewery expansion, SweetWater hopes to continue developing its distribution footprint in 2013 to bring its unpasteurized ales further into southeast Florida, westward into Tennessee, as well as entering the state of Virginia.

The brewery is adding the finishing touches on the final stage of its $19 million expansion, concluding a project nearly two years in the works. The last of the three construction overhaul projects, Phase 3, includes the brewery’s new 250-barrel brew house, an upgrade from their original 50-barrel facility. With 10 new 1,000-barrel fermentation tanks, four new 1000-barrel brite tanks and a slew of shiny new brew house equipment, brewers completed initial tests through the new system in late December, and are now dialing in the final touches before firing up the lines for the real deal.

The first beer to christen the new brew house will be a fresh label introduced from the brewery’s notorious Dank Tank series, entitled Some Strange. This black IPA is the latest of Captain Danko’s high-gravity concoctions, weighing in at 10.0% ABV. Folks can expect to see the brew hit shelves in the first quarter of 2013. SweetWater encourages drinkers to stay tuned for a future announcement outlining the story behind the beer and official launch details.

As the brewery casts its line into 2013, SweetWater promises to keep fans covered with all the need-to-know 411 on its lip-smackin’ lineup and events rolling out in the New Year. See attached for the brewery’s 2013 Fishing Calendar (a seasonal outline of beer releases) and the 2013 Events Calendar.

SweetWater Unleashes The Gimp & Happy Ending (PR)

ATLANTA (December 2012) — SweetWater’s brewers are at it again, tapping into their dark side to cook up another one- hit wonder to unveil from the brewery’s infamous Dank Tank series. The team has had this freak show marinating for a while, and is finally ready to party.

This Old Ale promises to tease the senses, giving off sweet scents of caramel and toffee mixed with warming sensations of alcohol and malt, all well-balanced with a low-voltage dose of hops. It’s advised that this brew be stashed in cellars for a few months before consumption, but once broken out, its submissive deliciousness will be sure to please. Warning: this brew gags up 10.3% ABV so it’s suggested to ease in to The Gimp with caution.

For Southeastern sippers salivating for their turn to dance with the newest Dank Tank, fret no more. SweetWater is bringing out The Gimp in 22-ounce bottles and a limited supply of kegs just in time for Christmas. Cage them up while ya can, this brew is a limited-time run.

And that’s not all. SweetWater’s brewers are going out with a bang, serving up Happy Endings for all as 2012 comes to an end (or the whole world if you believe the Mayans). As part of the brewery’s Catch and Release seasonal lineup of brews, Happy Ending returns with a mouthful of bliss in every sip.

The Imperial Stout is brewed with Centennial and Willamette hops, and finished off with a dry-hop addition of Cascade and Simcoe hops. Measuring out to a whopping 9% ABV, the award-winning beer is a true dry-hopped stiffy with an explosive finish.

The brew will hit shelves in sixers and 22-ounce hand-waxed bombers, and on draft in select locations by the end of the year. Drinkers will be able to stock up through the New Year, but the brew cleans up shop in late February, so snatch ‘em up before they’re gone!

In honor of the “end of the world”, this Friday, Dec. 21, Happy Ending will make its draft debut at SweetWater’s tour ensuring their nearest and dearest go out with a smile on their faces. Kicking off at 5:30 p.m., guests can enjoy $10 tour admission which includes a souvenir pint glass, tours and six 5.5-ounce sample tickets.
