“Hopped To High Hell”- Stone’s Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA Arrives 6/11

Stone Ruination IPA celebrates 10 years of hoppy assaults on drinker’s palates this month.  Starting June 11th, Stone Brewing Co unleashes Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA.

“We took the unapologetically hoppy Stone Ruination IPA–so named for its ruinous effect on the palate–and hopped it to high hell,” explains Stone CEO & Co-Founder Greg Koch. “We actually amped up everything,” continues Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “We added more malt to bring the abv up to 10.8%, and the amount of hops we used almost defies reason,” he jokes. “Stone Ruination IPA already uses 2.5 pounds of hops per barrel, which is more than double the amount we use in any other core beer. For this anniversary version, we went double again, and used a most impressive 5 pounds of hops per barrel!”

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Columbus, Centennial.  Dry hop: Citra, Centennial
Malts: Crystal 15, Pale

Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft.  One time brew.
Distribution: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA

New beer celebrates Stone Ruination IPA turning the big 1-0 (PR)

(Escondido, CA | June 5, 2012) — Stone Ruination IPA, the first full-time brewed and bottled Double IPA on the planet, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this June. And what better way to celebrate a glorious decade of hoppy decadence than with even more hops?

Beginning June 11th, Stone Brewing Co. will unleash the brand new, lupulin-loaded Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA.

Stone Brews Ken Schmidt’s Second Creation

Remember Stone Brewing Co’s Kona Coffee, Macadamia, Coconut Porter?  It started as homebrewer Ken Schmidt’s winning entry in the American Homebrewer’s Association Membership Rally (brew off) in California.  His brew- Aloha Plenty was based off of the Coconut Porter from Maui Brewing.  Stone brought in Maui and Ken to brew the collaboration.

Fast forward to the most recent AHA Rally.  Guess who won again? Ken Schmidt.  The above is a picture of the hawaiian shirt laden homebrewer, as he brews Stone Mint Chocolate Stout with Iron Fist Brewing.

Stone To Bottle Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers

Stone Brewing Co will soon promote Smoked Porter with Chipotle Peppers for the first time ever.  The beer has been draft only, “from time to time” offering.

In December of 1996, we first released cult favorite Stone Smoked Porter, our second beer to ever “go public,” following Stone Pale Ale, which debuted five months earlier. Fast forward one decade shortly after we’d moved into our new brewery on Citracado Pkwy in Escondido. In May of 2006, Stone Smoked Porter became the first Stone beer to get a “modification treatment,” reborn as Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers. It was a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right smoky heat of the roasted jalapeiio peppers combining beautifully with the beer’s peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The mix of spiciness and the beer’s natural chocolaty overtones further complimented the symphony of flavor. (Ever try a spicy artisanal chocolate? You should; they can be quite incredible!) The beer quickly became one of Stone co-founder Greg Koch’s personal favorite. Even so, it’s still only ever been a limited “from-time-to-time” draft beer, and has never been bottled. Until now. Will we ever bottle it again? That’s for you to decide!

Style: Porter (w/ chipotle peppers)
Availability: Draft, 12 oz bottles
Arrival: TBA (Bottles)

5.9% ABV

Stone To Bottle Smoked Porter With Vanilla Bean

Stone Brewing Co will be bottling Smoked Porter with Vanilla Bean for the first time ever.  The beer has been draft only, “from time to time” offering.

In 2006, almost exactly ten years after we released Stone Smoked Porter (our second beer ever to be unleashed upon the public), Stone brewer Laura Ulrich had a stroke of brilliance…what if she introduced whole Madagascar vanilla beans into a small batch? And voila, Stone Smoked Porter w/ Vanilla Beans was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations were practically made for each other Natural vanilla beans melded perfectly with the chocolatey, malty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer, making it almost like a liquid dessert, but without an overbearing sweetness (add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and it off the hook’). And while Greg sticks by his preference for the aggressiveness of the chipotle version” the vanilla bean version is the dear fan favorite. As for our other Stone co-founder Steve? “Me? I love ’em both!” Ever the diplomat No matter your preference, they’re now both available for your sensory pleasure in a limited special 12oz bottling. Will either come back? Both? Depends on you! Voice your thoughts…

Style: Porter (w/ vanilla beans)
Availability: Draft, 12 oz bottles
Arrival: TBA (Bottles)

5.9% ABV
