Stone Creates New “Saison”

Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) has been hinting at the release of a new beer a little different then their usual hop aggressive, or “arrogant” ales. By the looks of it, that beer will be Stone Saison.

Stone also owns a farm that grows various herbs and spices for their restaurant – Stone World Bistro & Gardens. Just like the restaurant, this farm-to-table saison is brewed with home grown lemon zest, lemon thyme, and lavender.

In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro &. Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison-100% Stone. Celebrate the sunny season with an authentic taste of our farm and, with it, our commitment to quality.

Look for Stone Saison in 12oz bottles and draft.

Stone Old Guardian, Feb 24th

The 2014 release of Stone Brewing Co’s Old Guardian Barleywine is slated for February 24th. While every year finds an Old Guardian release, each Odd Year, sees a “odd” version of this boozy offering.

Barley wines are traditionally hefty brews, but ours is downright excessive. The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel-hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright hop notes, all culminating in a pleasing dryness. While it will evolve into an even more glorious brew with age, this beer’s delicious onslaught of flavors will seriously challenge your ability to wait any longer to drink it.

Stone Old Guardian Barleywine is available in 22oz bombers and draft seasonally, for a limited time.

Style: Barleywine
Availability: 22oz Bombers, Draft.
Distribution: AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KY, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NE, NC, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, and WA

Stone Announces New Quingenti: Guardian’s Slumber

Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) is following up yesterday’s announcement of Go To IPA with a new addition to the Quingenti Millilitre Series, Guardian’s Slumber.

Full details have not been released, as the name suggests – it may have something to do with their barleywine Old Guardian.

Update: Looks like three different bottles. As suspected, it’s 2013 Old Guardian Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels.

Stone Brewing Co. Looks To Build East

Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) is looking to build another production brewery on the east coast, much like New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and Oskar Blue have done.  (Note: Lagunitas is about to open their second facility in Chicago, IL)

The location has not been determined yet; the brewery is looking somewhere from mid-west to east coast.

The new location will feature a full production brewery, Stone World Bistro and Gardens, visitor center, tap room, and more. A note published by Stone co-founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner today is acting as a public Request for Proposal. They hope communities that consider themselves a good fit for Stone will respond with their own proposals.

No budgets, or time table for construction have been set. Bottom line, Stone will be building closer to the east coast in the fairly near future.
