Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA from Distilled Hops

In case you missed the earlier mention on Beer Street Journal, Sierra Nevada is working on a different approach to a new IPA. The beer, Hop Hunter IPA, will be brewed with distilled hop oil.

Sierra Nevada hasn’t fully revealed the methodology, but will basically steam extract pure hop oil from mature cones just after they are picked in the field. The end result is an IPA that smells unlike any other IPA you’ve had. Aroma is key.

Hop Hunter IPA is the first beer to feature oil from wet hops steam distilled directly in the field, minutes after harvest. We use his pure, powerful hop essence in concert with whole-cone hops in our brew kettle and in our Hop Torpedo to create the ultimate IPA experience.

Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA will be available in 12oz bottles in 2015.

Sierra Nevada Snowpack Variety Hits Shelves

Sierra Nevada (Chico, CA) Snowpack Winter Variety Pack is hitting shelves now.

The 12 pack features two brand new offerings alongside Pale Ale and Porter – Boomerang IPA, and Coffee Stout.

This mixed pack is a fun cross section of our brewery, a bit of a timeline said Ken Grossman Sierra Nevada’s founder I remember roasting malted barley in my own kitchen in the early days of Porter, and today we’re using coffee to create really complex flavors. I took road trips in the 70s to get my hands on Cascade hops, and here we are teaming up with friends in Australia who are growing new and exciting varieties. Snowpack shows how fun of a ride craft beer continues to be.

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale Launches this Week with New Art

Sierra Nevada (Chico, CA) Celebration, a perennial favorite, returns on October 15th. Celebration is a fresh-hop ale, something the brewery wants to clarify. Wet-hopped beers have hops that are freshly picked, and added to the beer undried within 24 hours. Fresh-hopped, in the case of Celebration Ale, are freshly dried hops from the field within 7 days of harvest.

We started brewing our beloved Celebration IPA in 1981, and it depends on the first hops of the annual harvest to capture the powerful pine and citrus aromas that are a hallmark of winter at our brewery. Let’s get festive with one of the earliest examples of an American IPA.

You’ll notice 2014 brings an artwork update. Sierra Nevada Celebration season kicks off in the brewery’s tap room on October 15, 2014.

Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narhwal Coming to Bottles

This beer might need no introduction. Sierra Nevada’s Narwhal Imperial Stout was released two years ago this month.

Since then, a few kegs of Barrel Aged Narwhal have made some appearances.

Much like Barrel Aged Bigfoot, Narwhal Imperial Stout was will release in bottles later this month. Aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels.

This beer is black as midnight and complex with layers of roasted malt flavor offering notes of espresso and dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla and honey from the barrels.

Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout was will be available in 750ml bottles.

Brewery sources tell Beer Street Journal that Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA should finish at 6.2% ABV, 70 IBUS. Releasing in early 2015.

Sierra Nevada’s “Snow Pack” Features Coffee Stout & Boomerang IPA

As expected, Sierra Nevada’s newest bottle offerings, Coffee Stout and Boomerang IPA will launch in the brewery’s Snowpack Seasonal Sampler, arriving  in mid-October, 2014.

When the winter winds begin to howl, hunker down with good people and great beer to ride out the storm. Snow Pack makes the mercury rise with a spectrum of beer flavors from bright, bracing hops to smooth, roasted malts and rich coffee.

The Fall Sampler included Pale Ale, Tumbler Brown along with Vienna Lager and Oktoberfest. Snowpack Seasonal Sampler will contain 12 bottles total, 3 each of Boomerang IPA, Coffee Stout, Porter, and Pale Ale.
