Sierra Nevada Breaks Top 10 Most Googled Beer Names

Google released their “Year in Searches” today, and a craft brewer cracked the Top 10 most searched beer terms.

The search engine giant logged trillions of searches. In the beer world, spot number one is held by Budweiser. Big beer brands like Corona, Miller and Coors join the list as well. Sierra Nevada, based in both Chico, California and Mills River, North Carolina, occupies the #10 spot.

Sierra Nevada Wild Hop Harvest IPA Shows Off Neomexicanus Hop

The final release in Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s five bottle 2014 Harvest Series is a very special one. For the first time, the Neomexicanus hop is on display.

2014 is the first time Sierra Nevada has released this rotating Harvest Series, showing off hop varieties and hopping methods. The Neomexicanus hop originates from Taos, New Mexico, and nicknamed “Medusa” for it’s multiple heads it produces on the vine. Neomexicanus is known for melon, apricot, and citrus aromas.

“There’s a fun sense of adventure in our final Harvest beer of the year,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “The Neomexicanus hop was a lucky find by a rogue hophead combing the wild landscape, and he’s essentially gifted it to craft beer. We’re always looking for new aromas and flavors, and when they’re unexpected, it’s all the more exciting.”

Sierra Nevada Wild Hop Neomexicanus ships nationwide in 24 ounce bottles.

Sierra Nevada Barrel-aged Torpedo Celebrates Torpedo Room First Anniversary

Sierra Nevada will celebrate the first anniversary of their Torpedo Room in Berkeley, California next month. In honor of this milestone, the brewery is releasing Barrel-aged Torpedo Extra IPA.

A year ago, Sierra Nevada opened the Torpedo Room on Fourth Street in Berkeley, California. The intimate space features 16 taps ranging from year round offerings to small batch offerings. A small taste of the Sierra Nevada culture nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Chico. (or Mills River for that matter.)

Our year round hop bomb Torpedo Extra IPA received special treatment, spending nearly 3 months in bourbon barrels into which we stuffed fresh Citra and Pacifica hops. While Torpedo’s normal aroma assault evolved during its hibernation, it emerged equally bold. The rich barrel character and fruity hops intertwine for a dynamic brew who’s mango and peach notes precede coconut and vanilla sweetness. The smoothness of our Barrel Aged Torpedo the lies it’s my in-depth, so sip slowly and among good company.

Sierra Nevada Barrel-aged Torpedo Extra IPA will be available in 750ml bottles, corked & caged at the Torpedo Room, and the gift shops in Mills River, NC, and Chico, CA.

Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp To Become Rotating Seasonal

Sierra Nevada (CA/NC) will launch a throwback Beer Camp seasonal in early spring – 2015 Beer Camp Hoppy Lager.

Hoppy Lager is a re-realized edition of Sierra Nevada & Ballast Point’s Electric Ray, found in this past summer’s Beer Camp Across America.

Last summer we teamed up with San Diego’s Ballast Point for a hop-head twist on a crisp lager. We remixed this encore which is loaded with whole-cone hops in the brew kettle in our Hop Torpedo to deliver a bold aroma back by smooth malt flavor.

The brewery tells Beer Street Journal that it plans on hand selecting a special beer camp offering from the past (not just Beer Camp Across America) to be a Beer Camp seasonal in the future. This is just the beginning.

Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Maple Stout Released

Become acquainted with the drool-worthy small batch beer from Sierra Nevada – Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Stout.

Maple Stout is a big (big like, 13.4% ABV) imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels with dark roasted coffee. What more do you need to know here?

…It has the notes of dark chocolate and toasted malts typical of a stout combined with an earthy sweetness and hint of maple balanced against toasted coconut aromas from the barrel aging. The beer finishes with a roasty touch from a combination of dark malts and coffee beans.

Sierra Nevada Barrel-Aged Maple Stout will be available in 750ml bottles. Don’t go checking your shelves for it. Barrel-Aged Maple Stout is only available in the Chico, California Gift Shop, Torpedo Room in Berkeley, and the Mills River Gift Shop in North Carolina (around 10/27).
