Sierra Nevada is hard at work this week bottling Barrel Aged Ovila Dubbel. A few folks from BSJ are currently at the brewery in Chico, California, and this fun surprise is rolling off of the line. As you’ll recall, the Ovila Series a line of abbey style collaborations with the monks of New Clairvaux in California. Dubbel was the initial release in the series, returning again this year in smaller, corked and caged formats. The bottles are slated for California distribution only.

The beer is a new recipe (we were speculating it was akin to the 30th Anni Imp Stout) and joins Sierra’s High Altitude Series. Expect a roasty, full bodied stout as you transition into colder temperatures…
Narwhal Imperial Stout is he latest beer in Sierra Nevada’s High Altitude Series. This malt-forward monster is bold – with notes of baker’s cocoa, molasses, and dark roasted coffee. This massive imperial stout is incredibly complex, rich, and intense and will develop in the bottle for years to come.

Malts: Two Row Pale, Chocolate, Honey, Carafa, Roasted Barley

Sierra Nevada looks to be ahead of schedule. The completion of their new brewery build out in Asheville, North Carolina has been moved up from November 2013 to July 2013. Stan Cooper and Brian Grossman recently told the Mills River Town Council that they want to get production running ASAP.
Makes sense too, as new beers like Barrel Aged Bigfoot have been put on hold until the new brewery is completed. [BlueRidgeNow]
