Hop Manna Sees Tap Handles

Shmaltz Brewing recently released Hop Manna in bombers for brewclubs & internal tastings.  Due to limited brewing capacity, it wasn’t expected for Hop Manna to see larger distribution until 2012.   Lucky for you, kegs of Hop Manna have hit larger distribution, and are currently hitting tap handles around He’brew markets.

So what is Hop Manna?  It’s a dry hopped American IPA.  You’d be truly remiss in your beer drinking duties NOT to read Jeremy’s infamous bottle rhetoric:

In the the book of Exodus, the ancient Hebrews survived 400 years of bondage before the ultimate supreme court dropped the 10 deadly Plagues on the land of the taskmasters and its head dictator, the Pharaoh.  Even then, only the begrudgingly, did he Let My People Go.  The freedom ride across, nay through the sea left a band of wandering nomads broke and suffering, no doubt with a mighty thirst and profound hunger.  Enter the Manna: a glorious gift to nourish body and soul.  Manna was said to combine the tastes of everything delicious to each person, depending on the desires of the one experiencing it.  And as the Good Book says, Each shall gather according to one’s need and shall enjoy a double portion to get through thy chosen day of rest.  Manna fed the entire tribe, but tradition suggests the righteous received manna ground in a heavenly mill, wile the wicked had to grind it below for themselves.  Perhaps we’ll let the brewers decide who’s been naughty or nice…

Hear o’Tribe of Shmaltz…Behold! A celebration of the flower of the craft beer revolution! A golden opportunity to feed your inner hop head and rejoice in Hop Manna, our newest delicacy of the modern He’brew Beer family.  L’Chaim!

Style: American IPA
Taste Expectations:  Lots of floral & piney hops, with a solid malt backbone.  Easy drinking IPA that is neither too bitter, or too sweet.
Availability: 22oz bombers (limited), Draft

6.8% ABV, 65 IBUs

Coney Island Is Worlds Smallest Brewery, 1 Gallon At A Time

One gallon at a time, Coney Island becomes a true “nano” brewery.   Fully licensed on June 24, 2011, the brewing system is capable of yielding 1 gallon per batch. That’s the same amount a jug of milk.  The tiny production brewery is nestled amidst the magical land of Coney Island in New York.  The beers are just as creative and unique as Coney Island itself.  Local guest brewers and home brewers are invited to brew some wild, unconventional recipes.  Beers like Horny RYEnocerous, Zomerfest, Mexi Kolsch (a take off a Mexican Lager), and Korndog Kolsch (yep, a hotdog flavored beer.)

… the CIBC brewing staff will craft three original beers each week to be bottled and sold at the brewery in collectible Coney Island Brewing Company packaging. All recipes brewed at CIBC are exclusive releases inspired by the local artistic and gastronomical landscape. Recent batches include a Pumpernickel Bagel Porter; a Red, White, and Blueberry Hefeweizen; and a Caramel Apple Ale. Shmaltz Brewing’s Coney Island Craft Lagers® and HE’BREW Beers® are also for sale at the brewery, and a limited amount of beer sampling will be available on premise.

On August 10th, Coney Island hosts the worlds tiniest ribbon cutting ceremony from 5:30-8:30 pm

Below is a pic of the tiny brewing system at Coney Island Brewing Co, featuring Fritz Fernow brewing up Horny RYEnocerous.

Shmaltz Edition Of Reunion 2011

Shmaltz Edition of Reunion Beer 2011.  This years edition (minutes away from shelves) is a chili beer, brewed with Olive & Sinclair cocoa nibs, vanilla beans & chili peppers.

Label:
Teaming up with Shmaltz Brewing for the first time, Terrapin Beer Co. returns for a third year as a production partner for Reunion ’11. We brew Reunion each year in memory of our dear friend and partner in this venture — Virginia MacLean. Virginia lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma in 2007. It was her wish that we continue to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org).

This year’s beer is a dark ale brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and chili peppers. It was inspired by a fantastic dessert that we used to share with Virginia at our favorite restaurant. This brown ale leads with a sweet and subtle spicy aroma. The flavor begins with complex malt overtones and quickly gives way to a chocolate and vanilla mix of satisfying bliss. Just when you thought it was over, the heat from the chilies sneaks in and coats your tongue with tantalizing heat.

Many thanks to all who have supported this project and have helped us honor Virginia’s memory.
Cheers — Pete and Alan

Availability: 22oz bombers, draft.  Released annually, style changes each year.

7.6% ABV
