Pabst Blue Ribbon Stronger Seltzer hits select test markets today

Pabst Blue Ribbon Stronger Seltzer debuts this month, hot on the heels of the Pabst Hard Coffee in July.

Hard seltzer is eating the alcoholic beverage industry alive. Boston Beer/Sam Adams owned Truly, as well as White Claw Seltzer is dominating the market. Pabst Blue Ribbon, known for over a century for their lager, is expanding their own portfolio in 2019. First, it was a high alcohol by volume Pabst, known as Pabst Extra. In a weirder portfolio expansion, it was Hard Coffee debuting in July.

Now, Pabst Blue Ribbon Stronger Seltzer debuts in a handful of test markets this month.

Stronger Seltzer is an appropriate name for this seltzer, which touts a bold 8% ABV. Consider it an “imperial hard seltzer”. Only one flavor is available at product launch – Lime, sweetened with sugar alternative Stevia, and containing on one gram of sugar.

“Stronger Seltzer is a fun and innovative new drink that delivers big on taste, and gives our customers something different to enjoy.” – John Newhouse, PBR Brand Manager

Pabst Blue Ribbon Stronger Seltzer will be available in Arizona, California, Montana, and Texas starting August 12th. More markets are expected in the fall.

Mother Earth debuts vanilla ice cream inspired cream ale

A successful year-round cream ale now inspired by a frosty popsicle. Mother Earth Creamin’ Creamsicle debuts year-round.

Mother Earth Brew Co. has a wildly successful cream ale – Cali Creamin’. It’s not often you find a brewery with a cream ale as their top seller. Building on that success, the brewery has launched a dessert-themed counterpart, Creamin’ Creamsicle.

The base is the familiar cream ale, with a dose of vanilla beans, and creamier thanks to lactose milk sugar.

Cali Creamsicle features hints of vanilla and a distinct citrus cream flavor that finishes slightly sweeter than it’s Cream Ale counterpart. Just as refreshing, just as iconic.

Mother Earth Creamin’ Creamsicle will be available in 12-ounce cans and draft year-round in late August 2019.

Stone’s 23rd Anniversary release is coming this week. Hint, it’s hoppy

Stone 23rd Uncanny Anni Double IPA releases in the coming week, a celebration of 23 years of craft brewing.

Over the years, Stone Brewing’s anniversary releases have covered a plethora of styles. The 5th Anniversary release was an IPA, followed by a porter on the 6th. 12th was Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, and 15th a Black IPA. Some years it was an IPA with all German hops and malts, others all Austrailian, there was even hazy IPA in there somewhere.

Monday Night & American Spirit Works Whiskey collaboration returns

Atlanta, Georgia’s Monday Night Brewing has some whiskey bragging rights to go alongside their beer lineup. Namely, their own whiskey, thanks to their collaboration partner (and now neighbor on Atlanta’s West End), American Spirit Works.

This story starts more than 6 years ago with Monday Night co-founder Joel Iverson finding himself living next door to American Spirit co-founder Charlie Thompson. The brewery & distillery businesses were born literally next door to each other.

From a fermentation standpoint, brewing and distilling have a lot in common, so Monday Night’s brewing team and ASW’s distiller Justin Manglitz had a common starting point to begin this collaboration.

Monday Night Single Malt Whiskey lovingly referred to as “The Badger”, starts with a mash full of cherrywood smoked malt, the same used in their flagship Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale. The wort is then transferred 5 miles down the road using the highly scientific “renting a Penske truck” method, according to Iverson. ASW distilled the mash and transferred it to white oak quarter casks.

Fortunately, our patience has paid off. Like the mighty Scottish badger, this Scotch-style Whiskey has a pleasant bite and will burrow into your belly with a smooth, slightly sweet, and delightfully smoky finish.

Monday Night Single Malt Whiskey is 86 Proof, available once again in 750-milliliter bottles at ASW as of August 9th. Ounce tasters can be purchased at both of their Atlanta locations. Bottles will be available in Georgia package stores starting mid-August.
