Nick Offerman & Lagavulin unveil a Guinness cask finished whisky

Actor Nick Offerman, Lagavulin Whiskey, and Guinness are debuting a new partnership ahead of Father’s Day 2021. A combination of single malt whisky and beer – Meet Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Guinness Cask Finish.

Offerman and Lagavulin began a partnership back in 2014. Offerman, probably most famously known as Ron Swanson on the tv show Parks and Rec, was often seen drinking Lagavulin Whisky and rare steaks throughout the show. Swanson (Offerman) even visited the distillery in Scotland in Season 6.

Created with Offerman’s father Ric in mind, Lagavulin took an 11 year Islay Single Malt and aged it for 4 months in Guinness casks from the brewery’s Open Gate Brewery in Maryland. The resulting flavor is describing as  ‘sweet peat’ – combining the intense peat and charred wood notes of the Lagavulin with the roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and sweet caramel notes from the Guinness casks.

Offerman’s entire Lagavulin: My Tales of Whisky, including a new episode for this new collaboration is available on YouTube.

Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Guinness Cask Finish will be available in 750-milliliter bottles at select retailers starting in May, $79.99 each.

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta. Maybe, needs some Gas-lanta

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta returns mid-May.

In 2018, the Atlanta-based brewery’s Black Tie Series became home to this quadruple dry-hopped imperial India pale ale, brewed with Columbus, Citra, and Galaxy hops. According to the brewery, it’s a “bridge collapsing” 8.5% alcohol by volume. Don’t know what that means by bridge collapsing in Atlanta? Google it. It was truly a shitshow.

With the unpredictability of Atlanta’s spring weather, this cloudy double IPA pops with sunny tropical notes on the nose. It drinks dank and finishes with a bit of bitterness, much like an Atlanta sports fan.

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta is available in 16-ounce cans and draft.

Drink it in good health… and don’t call it  “Hotlanta”.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Citra, Galaxy, Columbus
Malts: Pilsner, 2-Row, Flaked Oats

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: 4/29/18
Latest Return: Mid-May, 2021

8.5% ABV

From meme to beer: Scofflaw Karen From Next Door IPA

What was one of my worst regrets from 2020? Joining the Nextdoor app. Sure, it seemed like a good idea for safety awareness. But then you read it. The stream of self-entitled complaints, and the constant stream of self-righteous posts. It started as “Can I speak to your manager” haircut and memes, and  ultimately becoming “Karen.” You can probably chalk this phenomenon up to a Dane Cook stand-up bit from years ago.

Nextdoor is full of Karens, as Scofflaw Brewing found out the hard way when your brewery is next to a neighborhood. Honoring that love/hate/can’t stop reading the comments relationship is Scofflaw Karen From Next Door IPA.

There have never been more Karens our lives…so in honor of Mother’s Day, and for moms protecting their children from vicious servers everywhere, we tip our hats to you, Karen.

The hazy India pale ale speaks for itself, or to the manager directly. To our calculations, “Karen” has been released at least twice by the brewery in the past year, selling out fast each time.

If you missed it last time, Karen From Next Door IPA is back stirring up shit at the brewery. No mute button needed.

Style: IPA
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Brewery only
Latest Return: 5/6/21

A cellarman’s memory lives on. Creature Comforts Brewed For One.

Creature Comforts Brewed for One – now an annual release returns to the brewery this month.

This beer started as Cellarman’s Spirit, brewed to commemorate the loss of an employee and cellarman, Bob Weckback. The profits from that release were used to create a college fund for his son.

Starting in 2019, the beer became “Brewed for One,” growing into an initiative to honor a different, deserving individual in a life-changing way. Creature Comforts worked with two local agencies this year to support an individual who really needed it.

…to do for one what we wish they could do for all.

Brewed For One is a single-hop IPA  brewed with Idaho 7. Hailing from the state with the second most hop acreage in the U.S., Idaho 7 is huge on tropical and pine notes.

Creature Comforts Brewed For One 2021 will be available in 16-ounce cans and draft at the brewery starting May 7th.

Style: IPA
Hops: Idaho 7

Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft.
Release: 5/7/21

Creature Comforts to distribute outside of Georgia for the 1st time

Athens, Georgia-based Creature Comforts is expanding distribution out of Georgia for the first time. Tropicalia IPA will be spending some time at the beach in Charleston, South Carolina starting in mid-May.

CREATURE COMFORTS BUILDING 2ND BREWERY IN LOS ANGELES

Creature has signed on with Lee Distributors, part of Reyes Beer Division, which is the largest beer distributor in the U.S. Six beers from the brewery’s year-round lineup, including Tropicália, Automatic, Athena, Tritonia, Bibo Pilsner and Cosmik Debris.

Eleven seasonal beers will also be available, including six Hazy IPAs, Athena Paradiso varieties, and Koko Buni.

“This decision was a long time in the making. We’ve always been fans of Charleston’s hospitality and culinary scene, and since we already distribute to coastal Georgia, it felt like the right step as we begin distributing outside of Georgia for the first time.” – Creature Comforts CEO Chris Herron

Charleston and Hilton Head areas can expect the first tapping of Creature Comforts starting in mid-May. Launch events will be announced soon.

Creature Comforts turns 7 this year.

Mother Earth Brew Co. Rail Jam Hazy IPA up next in Project X

Mother Earth Rail Jam Hazy IPA is the latest entry in the brewery’s Project-X Series. Each release in the series is inspired by both brewer, and artist.

The artist is Matthew Perdoni, a visual artist based in North County San Diego. His passion for the arts started less with the comic book stories of Batman and Wolverine, but more with the illustrations themselves. Now his paintings and public artworks are well-known in San Diego.

Fans of artists and their stories, don’t skip on Perdoni’s interview with Mother Earth.

Off the Rails Hazy IPA is a collaboration with Mother Earth’s Director of Brewing Operations, Christopher Baker, and the Vista Location Head Brewer, Bret Stitzman. A lot of the brewery’s hazy IPAs have been lactose-heavy juiciness. Apparently, in this release, the brewery dialed flavor profile back a bit, bringing a bit of balance to the beer, which – might actually seem like going off the rails in this day and age.

Rails features some heavy hop hitters- Cashmere, Lemon Drop, Galaxy, and Citra Hops.

The net-net is that Rail Jam drinks exceptionally smooth, with almost no pronounced bitterness to speak of with bright lemon-lime citrus qualities in addition to melon, peach, and tangerine.

Mother Earth Rail Jam Hazy IPA is available in 16-ounce cans for a limited time where the brewery’s limited releases are sold.

Style: Hazy IPA
Hops: Cashmere, Lemon Drop, Galaxy, Citra

Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: Late April 2021
