Mikkeller Beer Geek

Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel is brewed with the world’s most expensive coffee.  Why is the coffee so pricey?  It’s made from weasel droppings.  Yep.  You read that right.  Well, it’s actually called a civit cat and it dines on the best, most ripe, coffee beans and the enzymes in its digestive system break down the beans.  The droppings are then collected and used to make Civit Coffee.  Expect lots of coffee flavor and aroma from this oatmeal stout brewed at Nøgne Ø.

Style: Oatmeal Stout

Barrel Aged Weasel Poop

Barrel aged weasel poop.  But I’m sure, tasty barrel poop.  The civet or this weasel eats coffee berries, and beans that come out (from the backside of the animal) is among the best coffee on the planet.  Over $100 a pound.  The regular edition of Beer Geek Brunch is one of the best in the Beer Geek series.  Now Mikkeller is aging it in cognac barrels.

This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from the droppings of weasel-like civet cats.  The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.  Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean.  Workers collect the bean-containing droppings from Civet or Weasel Coffee.  The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and even stronger aroma.

Style: Imperial Oatmeal Stout
Availability: 16.9 oz bottles
Arrival: Winter, 2011

10.9% ABV

Mikkeller Invasion, A Non Collab U.S. Brew

Mikkeller’s newest stateside brew Invasion IPA, was brewed at Drake’s Brewing in San Leandro, California.  Now, Mikkeller (who has no physical brewery) has brewed in the United States before, but almost always (fail to remember one on their own) as a collaboration.  (See: Jester King, Three Floyds, Etc.)

Invasion is an American IPA, available in 22oz bombers.  Shelton Brothers in Massachusetts will still distribute the beer, potentially pushing into existing Mikkeller markets across the U.S.

It would be some interesting role reversal to have some Mikkeller imported the other way…
