Port/Lost Abbey Distribute to Pittsburgh

Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey have signed with distributor Wilson-McGinley to cover the Pittsburgh market. The brewery will hit the ground in the steel city in November, 2014.

The market will get a the full Port Brewing/Lost Abbey core and seasonals.

Fire Forces Stone Brewing Co. To Evacuate

Fires threaten Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, California. The brewery announced on Twitter they would be evacuating their home base ahead of the threat.

The AP reports at least nine blazes in the San Diego area, that have destroyed more than 10,000 acres and forced out 125,000 residents. The cause of the fires has not yet been determined. 

Lost Abbey (San Marcos, CA) has closed the tap room to tastings, but have not announced evacuating their brewery.

Obviously, there are more breweries, and more importantly, peoples lives and homes in the way the fire.

All the best to everyone in the path. Hopefully everyone can get back to beer brewing and beer drinking too.

Lost Abbey Carnevale Returns with Masked Party

The Lost Abbey (San Marcos, CA) will release a new round of Carnevale on February 22nd, 2014.  The saison ale is brewed in celebration of Lent and Easter.

….Carnevale is light bodied Saison, using Brettanomyces along with Amirillo and Simcoe hops to generate flavor and depth. Carnevale’s complexity grows with time. The citrus notes tend to wane and the wild yeast rears its wonderfully tasting head.

In true Lost Abbey fashion, the brewery will host a masked ball on release day. Admission is free if you wear a mask.

Style: Saison
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Corked & Caged. Spring seasonal.

Maui Brewing Collaborates with Lost Abbey

Meet Lemongrass Saison, Maui Brewing’s collaboration with Lost Abbey using 150 lbs of 100% local Maui raised lemongrass. Around 500 barrels were produced and all of Maui’s distribution area should be seeing it in cans and maybe even on draft. According to Maui, the beer pairs well with “chilling outdoors with friends,” which of course is the best pairing of all.

Goodbye Pope, Hello Lost Abbey Sede Vacante

In celebration of the Papal Vacancy The Lost Abbey has a new creation to launch. Sede Vacante Ale (Latin for vacant seat) is a blend of barleywine aged in cognac barrels and Angel’s Share aged in brandy barrels. The creation of the beer is veiled in complete secrecy with the recipe being burned upon completion.

“It’s not very often we get to fete the arrival of a new Pontiff. We felt this was an exceptional event worthy of a new release from our Lost Abbey Barrel Program.” 

This will be an extremely rare release with an estimated 100 cases available. Starting March 23rd at 10am bottles will be available at the brewery on a first-come-first-served basis at $35 per 750 mL bottle.
