Lagunitas Stoopid Wit coming this month

Lagunitas Stoopid Wit will join the brewery’s seasonal lineup this month. A beer loosely based on a few styles.

This week we tried an early sample of this upcoming release. Lagunitas Stoopid Wit is a bit hoppy, like Hop Stoopid. It’s soft and wheat-y like a Belgian witbier. Let’s say it’s got a foot in both worlds.

This UNFILTERED Belgian-ish Wit-ly-esque-ish-ness brew features a dry twang of hoppy bitterness and is perfect for the summertime drinkin’!

Lagunitas Stoopid Wit will be a 12 ounce bottle and draft offering. More details coming soon.

First Look: Lagunitas 12th of Never, the brewery’s 1st can

Lagunitas 12th of Never will officially be the brewery’s first canned offering. Above is a Beer Street Journal exclusive look at the new beer.

Tony Magee, the brewery’s founder, said a while ago that his brewery would be the last to ever can their beer. If you look at the current state of the brewing industry from the can perspective, he might be close. Canned offerings are tripling by the day.

Lagunitas 12th of Never is – surprise, surprise – a hop forward beer. Described as a “bitter-esque, pale-isa ale”. As we sit here drinking it for the first time, it truly is damn hop forward, walking a fine line between pale ale and IPA, kind of beer. A truly tasty beer for this nearly 100 degree start to the summer. Fans of Lagunitas Brewing’s bold hop flavor will be quite happy with this release year-round.

This is a blend of Old & New School hops that play bright citrus and rich tropical flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Light, yet full bodied… the Lagunitas 12th of Never Ale is everything about making hop forward beer expressed in a moderate voice. Pale, cold, lightly alcoholic, and bitter. It’s all we know.

Lagunitas 12th of Never – aka their first canned beer, arrives  in a twelver of 12-oz 12ths. Or. 12 ounce cans, in a 12 pack. First shipment drops in July.

Lagunitas The Down Low, a new hoppy session

Lagunitas The Down Low is hitting shelves now. A new session ale.

This new 3.9% alcohol by volume summer slammer is a brewed with a boat-load of Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra hops from Perrault Farms.

This dry and hoppy copper ale is packed full of some of our favorite Northwestern Hops from Perrault Farms (over 2 lbs. per barrel!), and copper-died with some dark crystal malts to make this tropical, earthy, and stoooopdly flammable ale.

Lagunitas The Down Low is a 22 ounce bottle seasonal offering.

Lagunitas Doppel Sticky Hits One-Hitter Series

Lagunitas Doppel Sticky joins the brewery’s One-Hitter Series this month. The One-Hitter lineup features a group of on-off beers by the Petaluma, California based brewery.

Lagunitas Doppel Sticky is brewed (close) to the double altbier style, a bit like Doppelsticke, you know by the German brewery Uerige. “Sticke” means secret in the German vernacular, as Uerige brews Doppelsticke just twice a year and doesn’t reveal the recipe.

This edition by Lagunitas is an imperial altibier, by best American brewer definition. Their description tells it best.

This fruity, estery double altbier is brewed in the traditional-ish style of the Doppelsticke, which is the widely known secret Germanic-esque strong ale. Like it’s California Common counterpart, we fermented this ale at a lower temperature to pull out the sulphur-y bite from the yeast, then dry-hopped it with some dank, Sticky hops, including some brand-spankin’-new Enigma hops from the great Down Under!

Lagunitas Doppel Sticky is available on draft, and 12 ounce bottle offering from September through October of this year.

Heineken Acquires a 50% Stake in Lagunitas

Lagunitas Brewing Co. (Petaluma, CA) has announced a deal today with Heineken International. The deal allows Heineken, the world’s 3rd largest brewery, a 50% stake in the brewery.

The deal is cash generator for Lagunitas, who announced the addition of a third brewery some weeks ago in California.

The board will consist of six seats, divided three each between Heineken and Lagunitas members.

While the full terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed  (which will close in the 4th quarter), but many have hinted in the $100’s of millions.

Lagunitas To Build Third Brewery in Azusa, California

Lagunitas founder Tony Magee revealed on Twitter last night his plans to build a third brewery in Azusa, California.

Initial details from Magee mention initial capacity as 420,000 barrels (13 millions gallons) annually, with a buildout capacity of 1 million barrels.

The project requires no money from the state, or city, and the building is already under construction.

The brewery should be online by 2017.
