Flying Dog Creates New Beer Exclusively For 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (PR)

FREDERICK, MD — What brings us together, as brethren of craft beer, is an innate bitterness that runs through our veins, creating a thirst that can only be quenched by an all-out assault on our taste buds and an intense love of the craft.

Brewed exclusively for the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (and a collaborative project with Reyes Beverage Group), Bloodline is an intesnely-hopped IPA brewed with Blood Orange peel and juice.

According to our Brewmaster Matt Brophy, “The result is a flavor profile that harnessed the best aspects of both the hops (Warrior, Citra, and Nelson Sauvin) and the citrus,” Brewmaster Matt Brophy said. “We’re all very fond of hop-based citrus aromas, so experimenting with actual citrus was a natural extension of that.”

Bloodline will be available on draft only during the Craft Brewers Conference in Washington, DC starting March 26.

Flying Dog and Evolution Foster Natural Selection

Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewing and Evolution Brewing are combining their skills to create Natural Selection – a 3 part beer release series. The first beer will be Genus One, a stock ale, that will release in March. After that each brewery will brew a second batch with Flying Dog’s being dry hopped for Genus Two and Evolution’s barrel aged to create Genus Three.

We’ve had a lot of fun at Evolution designing beers to pair with different barrel types and this is an opportunity to expand on that experience. Creating a beer that can express barrel character in our release while complementing dry-hopping in the Flying Dog version was a great challenge and I’m looking forward to the results.” -Geoff DeBisschop of Evolution Brewing

Genus One will debut at this year’s Craft Brewers Conference in Washington DC. Genus Two and Genus Three will be ready in October. All three releases will only be available in the Mid-Atlantic market.

First Time: Flying Dog Lucky SOB Bottles (w/ 4-Leaf Clovers)

Flying Dog Lucky SOB Bottles

I always thought those who drink are the lucky lucky SOBs. Flying Dog’s beer by the same name will return soon, and this year – in bottles.  Billed as an Irish Red for those whose lives always fall into place…and also for the rest of us who curse those blessed bastards.

No joke, this beer is brewed with 4-leaf clovers, one of the more interesting adjuncts (fancy word for extras) I’ve seen. Drink in the luck of the Irish with this gingery concoction.

As our brewers added the four-leaf clovers to the brew, they recited the following limerick:

Here’s to a long life and a merry one,
A quick death and an easy one,
A pretty girl and an honest one,
A cold beer and another one!

Style: Red Ale (w/ 4-Leaf Clovers)
Availability: Draft, 12oz bottles (New for 2013!)
