Expect new beers, new bottle formats at Crooked Stave this year

Denver, Colorado’s Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project spent $3 million in brewery buildout and improvements in 2016. You’ll be seeing the results of those improvements this year.

Improvements.

The fully customized brewery includes a new brewhouse with a coolship for spontaneously fermented beer, increased foeder fermentation by 100%, a commitment to 100% fruit in their lineup and new packaging ability.

In 2017, expect to see 750 milliliter corked & caged bottles hitting the market, as well as 1.5 liter ‘magnums’ of select barrel-aged beers.

2017 is the year where we get to show off all the hard work we have put in over the last 6 years to get to this point. We see this year as a turning point, we put processes in place capable of making beers in a creative and quality way that I’ve never seen any other brewery install.” – Chad Yakobson, Crooked Stave Owner and Brewmaster

In the coming year, Crooked Stave plans to release all of their Barrel Cellar Blends, which include L’Brett d’Or, Flor d’Lees, Origins and Nightmare on Brett in 750ml, 100% bottled conditioned, cork and caged bottles.

NEW.

Crooked Stave will debut the Reserve Cellar Releases, which will include a new 750ml bottle each month. The sours will include 100% whole fruit sours such as L’Brett d’Raspberry, Persica, Surette Reserva with Palisade Peaches, Mama Bears Sour Cherry Pie and Nightmare on Brett Raspberry.

Taproom only releases. Expect Crooked Stave to release single barrel and limited blends of new beers.

Crooked Stave Totem, a musical collab with The Motet

Crooked Stave Totem

Crooked Stave Totem Wild Ale debuts this summer, a collaboration with musical group The Motet.

The Motet hails from Boulder, Colorado – a six-piece group whose sound incorporates elements of funk, jazz, folk, and world music. (You can thank iTunes for the assist on that description.)

As for Crooked Stave Totem, the wild ale is a specialty blend of wild ales from the brewery’s sacred barrel cellar. Plus berries. Wild ales a crazy good with berries.

Totem is inspired by the oak barrels we hold scared at our brewery. Stacked to the ceiling, they elevate the natural wild beers we brew. This limited edition bottling will only be available through Summer, 2016 in celebration of The Motet’s new Totem and their headlining show at Red Rocks on July 22nd.

Crooked Stave Totem will be available in 12.7 ounce bottles throughout the summer.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Berries. Oak Aged.)

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Pure Guava Rounds Out Petite Series

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Pure Guava

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Pure Guava returns to the brewery’s lineup on August 19th. The release will wrap up with brewery’s Petite Sour Series.

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Pure Guava first debuted in 750 milliliter bottles in May of 2011, and was the first commercially available beer from the brewery. For this edition, Crooked Stave used the house mixed culture to do the entire fermentation.

“The original Pure Guava was a funky beer which has shaped the face of brewing for many brewers across the US,” said Chad Yakobson, Crooked Stave Owner / Head Brewer. “We decided to revisit this beer, using our current Petite Sour recipe, but instead of adding lacto to the wort pre-yeast, we used our house sour mixed culture to do 100% of the fermentation. The result is a much more complex Petite Sour with strong notes of tropical fruit and a pleasing tartness.”

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Pure Guava will be avaiable in 375 milliliter bottles.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (w/ Guava. Oak Aged)
Availability: 2
Release: 8/19/15

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) Releases July 15th

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) releases July 15th. A special collaboration with Hawkshead Brewery based in the United Kingdom.

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) is part of the Tran-Atlantic Rainbow Project, a series that challenges brewers to brew a beer inspired by a color. To create Key Lime Tau, the brewery created a mixed culture fermentation wild ale, aged in oak with lactose, fresh lime peel, and lemongrass.

“Key Lime Tau is a riff on a friend of ours’ beer Limoncello. We decided to put our own spin on a Limoncello and it came out very much like a Key Lime Pie,” said Yakobson. “We chose to call this beer Key Lime Tau as ‘tau’ is mathematically 2π and since the collaboration was brewed at both Hawkshead and Crooked Stave, two versions exist making it two Pies.”

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) will be available in their taproom at 3350 Brighton Blvd at 6 pm on July 15th.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Lemongrass, Lime Peel, Lactose. Oak Aged)
