Man To Be Buried In Budweiser Casket

Leon Wesley was loyal to his Budweiser. Everyday he’d stop at the same Junior Mart and pick up his favorite brew. The 6 foot 7 inch tall man (refered to a Bin Laden, because of his beard) will be buried in a casket of his favorite drink. He died on Sunday of prostate cancer in Maringouin, Louisiana.  He’ll also be holding a Budweiser in his casket.  [WAFB]

White House Releases Homebrew Recipes

The White House has officially released their widely talked about home brew recipes. Apparently these recipes are the first evidence of beer being brewed on White House grounds. George Washington brewed at Mount Vernon, other forefathers at their estates. The first beer brewed was White House Honey Brown.  It looks like that recipe will remain a mystery. However, two recipes were released – White House Honey Ale, and Honey Porter. Each made with honey from the White House hives. President Obama has stocked his campaign bus with these home brews below.

New Belgium Fears Wildfire Taste In Local Water [Video]

New Belgium Brewing is facing a new issue in the brewing process. Water contamination. Runoff from the Colorado wildfires has seeped into the Poudre River that the Fort Collins based brewery uses. In the meantime, New Belgium has been using water from Larimer County.

The brewery was recently informed that they might have to go back to using the tainted river water. Obviously, that water would be unusable for brewing. New Belgium is currently working on a solution. There’s a rauch beer joke in this story somewhere. [Thanks @RhizomePro]

Anchorage Brewing Company Hits Georgia

Taking a good bit of us by surprise – Anchorage Brewing Company (Anchorage, AK) officially has beers on the shelf in Georgia.  White Out Wit, and Galaxy White IPA are the first offerings. The beers come through Savannah Distributing.

Anchorage was founded by Gabe Fletcher, opening early last year. The brewery specializes in barrel fermentation and brettanoymyces yeasts. (Wild & funky, baby!)

More on the first beers:

White Out Wit – Witbier,6.5% ABV, 20 IBUs. Aged in Chardonnay barrels

Unique to the north and feared by man and beast, the WHITEOUT comes without warning.

With quiet ferocity, how quickly this force erases the sensations and reduces any creature to its most basic elements. When enveloped in one, sight, sound and even tactile sensation are ripped away, as snowflakes in motion swallow all sense of being, leaving one to cower, hunker down and wait it out, hoping that it passes quickly or that the end is merciful. Of variable and unknown duration minutes seem like eternity in a whiteout.

Galaxy White IPA – IPA, 7% ABV

Ale brewed with Galaxy hops, coriander, kumquats, and peppercorns. Fermented and aged in French oak foudres with a wit yeast. Dry hopped with Galaxy hops. Bottle conditioned with brettanomyces and wine yeast. Drink fresh or age to bring out the funk.

Both are available in 750’s
