400 Deep Just to Get a Taste?

This week marks the launch of Pliny the Younger and as expected the crowds are out in full force hoping to get a taste of this highly sought-after beer. Pliny the Younger is considered to be one of the best beers in the world scoring highly not just on Beer Advocate and Rate Beer, but amongst those who have had the opportunity to enjoy a glass or two. Reports of the line at Russian River Brewing being around 400 people deep started popping up on social media around noon today. There’s no guarantee that each person will get a glass as Russian River plans to ration their supply to ensure it stays on tap through the weekend. Would you wait in a line of 400 people just for a beer?

Update on 2013 Pliny the Younger

Pliny the Younger will be arriving at Russian River’s brewpub at 11 am on February 1st. Russian River will be rationing supplies each day to make sure that they will have enough to last the 2 week duration, so they highly recommend you stop by early in the day.

As far as where and when other kegs will arrive and be tapped everything is just speculation for now. Russian River hints at tappings in the bay area during SF Beer Week (Feb 8) but will neither confirm nor deny. They are also encouraging all of their accounts to tap in February to assure freshness. Keep your eyes and ears open!

New Belgium CEO Kim Jordan Tapped as CBC Keynote

New Belgium Brewing co-founder and CEO Kim Jordan is confirmed as the keynote speaker for the Brewers Association’s 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (CBC). CBC will be held in Washington, D.C. from March 26-29.

Jordan was the keynote speaker at the CBC back in New Orleans in 2003. Jordan, and here 100% employee owned company, and grown to be the 3rd largest craft brewer in the United States. [Press Release]

– As of 1/22/13 – new brewhouse is completed. Moving from 25 Barrel to 10o Barrel Brewhouse
– 8 new 200 Barrel Fermenters have been installed

– Terrapin Golden Ale will continue to be only available in Georgia – with special “Only Available in Georgia” Labels
– Hopsecutioner will be available in 12 packs this year
