National Premium To Return In April
Plans have been in the works for a while to bring National Premium back to shelves. Looks like the beer will finally be a reality in April.
On Wednesday, Fordham Brewing Company in Delaware will start brewing the beer’s first official batch – 50 barrels – since 1996. The whole process, including bottling, should be finished by the end of March, Miller said. Several 100-barrel runs are planned after that.
No distributor has been chosen yet for Premium. First stores to get the beer again will be in the Baltimore area. Tim Miller is a real estate agent that purchased the brand in 2010 for $100,000 dollars. His next step was to track down the orignal recipe and find someone to brew it. The original recipe dates back to 1934, maintaining it’s popularity in the mid-atlantic region through the 1960’s. The brand and recipe changed hands when Stroh Brewing bought it from G Heileman, and discontinued the brew in 1996.
Miller has been testing batches of National Premium since December at Fordham Brewing. Today, he announced that the first batches will roll out in April, just in time for baseball season.
National Premium Closer To Relaunch
Maryland’s National Premium – discontinued in 1996, is officially being brewed again. In Delaware. For now. Tim Miller, a realtor, bought the rights to the brand in 2010 for less than $100 Grand. Apparently he tracked down the original recipe. Fordham Brewing Company is doing the test batches for Miller (the realtor) but hasn’t made any long term commitments for the brewing process.
