About Beer Street Journal

Here’s the honest version.

I had a corporate job and a 5 o’clock habit — craft beer after craft beer, every evening, back when “craft beer” still needed explaining to most people. Right before I got laid off, I’d started a scrappy little website about the beers I was drinking. It had a different name then. When it caught fire, I rebranded it Beer Street Journal.

That was seventeen years ago. Since then I’ve chased it across four continents and more than 2,000 breweries — plus the wineries, distilleries, and dive bars in between — and BSJ grew into one of the most-read beer publications online, somehow landing in front of readers in over 200 countries.

Then it outgrew the beer. These days it’s about everything around the glass: the cocktails, the wineries, the dive bars I can never walk past, the cities the road keeps handing me, the bands in the corner, the food on the bar. The rule is simple — if you can drink in it, at it, or around it, I’m covering it.

It’s all shot and written by me, Reid Ramsay. One glass, one frame at a time.
