Three Taverns Closing Decatur Flagship Brewery and Taproom After 13 Years

Three Taverns Brewery is suspending production at its original Decatur brewery and closing The Parlour, the taproom at 121 New Street in East Decatur Station, after 13 years.
Founder Brian Purcell announced the decision Monday, Nov. 2, in a post on social media. He said the location is no longer financially feasible to operate, “barring an angel,” and that closing it will let the company keep going for years to come.
“After 13 amazing years, we’ve made the difficult decision to suspend production at our flagship brewery location on New Street in East Decatur,” Purcell wrote, calling it “one of the hardest notes I’ve ever had to write.”
The New Street facility brews the beer that goes out to market. “It’s where we brewed our first batches, where we served our first guests, where we learned (and failed, and learned again),” Purcell wrote. He also thanked past and present Decatur employees for the quality they built since the 2013 launch.
A final day for the Decatur taproom has not been announced.
Three Taverns stays
Three Taverns isn’t going anywhere. Its two Atlanta locations remain open: the Imaginarium, which opened in 2020 at Atlanta Dairies in Reynoldstown and focuses on experimental beers, and Ponce Brew Terminal, the brewery, distillery and taproom that opened April 4 at Signal House next to Ponce City Market, with food from DAS BBQ.
Both will keep brewing, distilling and pouring. The company says it is working with a brewing partner to keep its core beers on tap at bars and restaurants and on store shelves. It has not named the partner.
Purcell, a 20-year Decatur resident, poured Three Taverns publicly for the first time on July 19, 2013, at Brick Store Pub, and opened the New Street taproom that October. Beer Street Journal filmed a short piece that first day at BSP (below). The brewery took its name from the Three Taverns of the Bible, a rest stop for travelers, and built its early reputation on Belgian-inspired beers such as Single Intent and A Night in Brussels.
