Tailgate Brewery acquires Yazoo Brewing

TailGate Brewery has bought Yazoo Brewing Co.’s production brewery and taproom in Madison, Tenn., and will make the 6.5-acre campus its primary production hub, the company announced Oct. 13.

The deal covers the facility at 900 River Bluff Drive, not Yazoo’s beer brands. Those brands joined the R.S. Lipman Brewing portfolio in 2025, according to TailGate’s announcement as reported by Axios Nashville, and will continue to be brewed in Madison. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TailGate founder and sole owner Wesley Keegan said the company had run out of room.

TailGate’s West Nashville headquarters on Charlotte Pike, home to a 15-barrel pilot system and a 50-barrel production brewery, will keep brewing. TailGate plans to brew its own beers on Madison’s 40-barrel system alongside the Yazoo lineup. TailGate said it has offered jobs to all Yazoo employees, with its standard benefits package, including 100% company-paid health insurance.

Linus Hall, who founded Yazoo with his wife, is stepping back from ownership.

The Madison taproom will become TailGate’s ninth Tennessee taproom.Yazoo opened in 2003 in the Marathon Motor Works building as Nashville’s first production brewery since Prohibition. It began bottling in 2005, moved to the Gulch in 2010 and relocated to the purpose-built Madison brewery in July 2019, where it began canning for the first time.

TailGate opened in 2014 in a former Moose Lodge in West Nashville with a 3-barrel system. It now runs taprooms in Nashville, Antioch, Hendersonville, Murfreesboro and Chattanooga, plus an outlet at Nashville International Airport, and says it employs more than 250 people.
