Maple syrup bourbon barrel-aged Founders Curmudgeon’s Better Half is returning after 6 years

Founders Curmudgeon's Better-Half bottles

Founders Curmudgeon’s Better Half, originally the third release in the brewery’s Backstage Series, returns in August.

The grumpy “Curmudgeon” on the label is best known for appearances on hiatus old ale by the same name. In February 2012, the brewery released Curmudgeon’s Better Half as a part of their Backstage Series, now known as the Barrel Aged Series.

Curmudgeon’s Better Half is the familiar old ale brewed with molasses and aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels. (Similar to Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout.) Fan demand prompted the return of this boozy treat.

Curmudgeon’s Better Half has become one of the most highly requested beers and for good reason. It’s damn good. You all have been very vocal in petitioning for its return and it would’ve been cruel for us to hold out any longer in delivering on that.

Founders Curmudgeon’s Better Half will make its return in mid-August, in 750-milliliter bottles, as well as new 12-ounce bottles and draft.

Style: Old Ale (w/ Molasses. Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel Aged.)
Availability: 750ml bottles, 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: February 2012
Latest Return: Mid August 2018

Founders CBS officially returns on December 1st

Founders CBS 2017 Bottle

It’s official. Founders CBS will return on December 1st.

One of the most demanded beers in Grand Rapids, Michigan based Founders Brewing’s lineup is CBS, aka Canadian Breakfast Stout.

The imperial stout is brewed with a blend of coffee and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup. Folks go insane at the mere mention of this beer.

The only time the world saw bottles of this release was in October of 2011, as the second release in the brewery’s Backstage Series.

Since then, the Backstage Series has grown eventually morphing into the Barrel-Aged Series. Still, any indication of a Founders CBS return has been non-existent.

Until now.

Artwork for Founders CBS relabeled under the Barrel Aged Series moniker. The brewery has officially announced the CBS will be available again in the Grand Rapids taproom on December 1st (via online ticket sale), with distribution to follow shortly after. Bottles will retail for $24.99 a bottle.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee. Chocolate. Maple Syrup. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.
Latest Return: 12/1/17

Winter cider: Angry Orchard Tapped Maple

Angry Orchard Tapped Maple

Available now: Angry Orchard Tapped Maple, a new hard cider.

Cold wintery breakfasts are the inspiration for Tapped Maple. Angry Orchard used culinary apples from the United States, and Vermont maple syrup in its creation. Once the apple juice fermented into a dry cider, maple syrup was added to create a fun, contrasting flavor.

This cider is especially interesting because the base cider is actually quite dry. The maple syrup – rich in flavor and natural maple sweetness – adds a delicate balance, creating a not-too-sweet cider with a strong maple-forward aroma, and full, round mouthfeel.

Angry Orchard Tapped Maple is available from January through April in 12 ounce bottles.

Style: Hard Cider (w/ Maple Syrup.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles. Jan-April
Debut: January, 2017

5% ABV

Ed note: Apparently this cider was released in January. PR was released Mid-Feb.
