8th Wonder Viet-Irish Coffee market the brewery’s 1st bottle release

8th Wonder Viet-Irish Coffee

8th Wonder Viet-Irish Coffee debuts at the Houston, Texas brewery this weekend.

This first bottle release by 8th Wonder is indeed a big one, especially since the brewery calls this beer Imperial Rocket Fuel. Viet-Irish Coffee is based on year-round Rocket Fuel, a 4.6% alcohol robust porter brewed with Greenway Coffee and milk sugar.

This imperial edition features the same locally roasted Greenway Coffee and aged in Jameson Whiskey barrels.

8th Wonder Viet-Irish Coffee will be available in 22-ounce bottles and draft when the brewery opens on Saturday, January 25th.

Monday Night Lay Low, a low-calorie IPA releases soon

Monday Night Lay Low IPA

There are a handful of lower alcohol by volume, lower-calorie beers in the craft brewing segment. Some of the most notable recent releases include One-y IPA by Oskar Blues, Slightly Mighty by Dogfish Head, and Swipe Light by Southern Tier. Soon,  Monday Night Lay Low IPA is joining the category soon.

Early details are pretty simple. Lay Low is an India pale ale that is 3.2% alcohol by volume, instead of 3.5% as previously reported and just 95 calories. Starting in 2020, the brewery has ceased using 6-pack rings and has shifted to the box format.

Monday Night Lay Low IPA is slated for 12-ounce cans and draft starting January 24th.

Bell’s Brewery is releasing ‘Goin’ Dark’ to honor veterans & active military

Bell's Goin' Dark Coffee Milk Stout

Bell’s Brewery is honoring veterans and active service military with a special beer release for Veteran’s Day. Bell’s Goin’ Dark debuts at the brewery’s Eccentric Cafe on November 11th.

Goin’ Dark is a coffee milk stout brewed with bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans. This beer was visualized, conceived, brewed and packaged by a team of 20 Bell’s employees that served in the military or currently enlisted or have families actively serving.

“It’s an honor to recognize the men and women in our military as well as their families and extend that celebration to those who make that sacrifice.” – Larry Bell, Founder & President

Additionally, Bell’s is working with Section Collection, a nonprofit that provides support for veterans in need.

Bell’s Goin’ Dark will be available exclusively at the Eccentric Cafe on November 11th, in 12-ounce bottles and draft.

Sixpoint is releasing the last cans in their current taproom on October 26th

Sixpoint Brewery will be releasing the last cans in their current taproom this weekend. After that, the brewery is taking a release hiatus until they move into their new brewery and taproom in Gowanus in Brooklyn, New York.

That taproom has seen 26 can releases. 65 new beer releases. This weekend, Sixpoint wraps it all up with three special releases.

On October 26th, Mega Raspy, The Mayor, and Double Oaked Master Blend will be available

  • Mega Raspy – A “mega” edition inspired by the previous Raspy releases. Mega Raspy is described as an “insane” berry medley that is a big 10% ABV
  • The Mayor – Imperial IPA, brewed in honor of Mark Speigel, the “Mayor of Sixpoint” that has been to nearly every Sixpoint release. Mark passed away last year. A hazy IPA with Idaho 7, Galaxy, Mandarina, Simcoe, and Centennial.
  • Double Oaked Master Blend – Brewed in collaboration with Jameson and the Caskmates Program. A 14.5% double aged imperial stout.

All three releases will be available in 12-ounce cans on Saturday, October 26th started at 11 am.

Scofflaw Brewing drops 6 Barrel-Aged releases on Black Friday

Scofflaw BA Absentium Black Friday

Atlanta’s Scofflaw Brewing is hosting a massive Barrel-Aged Absentium release on Black Friday.

Absentium is as much a beer as it is a serious of big, rich imperial stouts by Scofflaw. The series started with Bourbon Barrel Absentium, and has since grown to include various barrels and additions. Often times the brewery doesn’t even announce an Absentium release until day of, or often times not at all- just simply stocking the brewery’s to-go fridge.

This Black Friday, the brewery is dropping six different Absentium creations to kick off the Christmas season.

Starting at 8pm on Nomember 29th, brewery attendees can purchase

Cognac Barrel Aged Absentium Stout, Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Absentium Stout, Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Vanilla Absentium StoutBourbon Barrel Aged Maple Coffee Absentium StoutBourbon Barrel Aged Hazelnut Absentium Stout and Rum Barrel Aged Coconut Absentium Stout.

6-packs of the releases and individual bottles will be available.

If you think imperial cream ale inspired by apple pie, you have a good idea of what to expect with Suddenly Comfy.

A journey through nostaligia, this liquid apple pie is rich cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla beans, & fresh apple juice. Okay, just one more slice.

Dogfish Head Suddenly Comfy will be available in 12-ounce bottles and draft, slated for an October release.

Three Taverns has canned Pometheus for the first time

Three Taverns Pometheus

Three Taverns Pometheus is being canned for the first time. The Decatur, Georgia based brewery will debut the new format this weekend. 

Pometheus is a part of the brewery’s ongoing Sour Asylum Series, which features an array of various kettle-soured beers. This particular release has been a draft-only favorite in the taproom, prompting the brewery to finally can this superfruit delight.

Pomegranate and blueberries plus a touch of lactose milk sugar is the brewing combination that makes Pometheus so popular. The pomegranate is slightly tart, the blueberries slightly sweet, and each sip finishes with a smooth creaminess from the milk sugar.

Three Taverns Pometheus will be available on Saturday, September 21st when the brewery opens.
