Ohio Yuengling Drinkers Camp Out First Purchase

Yuengling  just made their debut into Ohio this week.  What people didn’t full expect was the reaction.  People camping out for their first taste of lager.

Some people camped out overnight in suburban Columbus to be the first to buy it. In suburban Youngstown, the Youngstown Sports Grille turned every tap handle into a Yuengling handle.

“I thought that this launch was going to make history for Yuengling and set the standard for future state launches, and Ohioans are going to make that happen,” said Patrick Noone, the brewery business development manager overseeing the move into Ohio. “It’s crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

2,000 Barrels Of Yuengling Oktoberfest Sold Before It Was Brewed

Yuengling’s newest beer – Oktoberfest is starting to hit tap handles you read this.  What seemed to be a gapping hole in the brewery’s lineup was an Oktoberfest offering.  The family came to the United States from Germany in the early 1800’s.  180 years later, this oversight is being corrected.  Everything from Traditional Amber to Lord Chesterfield is a family recipe.  There just wasn’t one for this style of beer.

It required some experimentation on Yuengling’s part come up with this new release.   The summer of 2011 was a summer of test batches, with not a SINGLE drop actually leaving the brewery.  Tasting was only done by Yuengling family members and close friends.

This new edition of the lineup is not being bottled (at least this year.) With nothing to sample or taste, Yuengling received orders for 2,000 barrels. Yuengling reps are now armed with growlers for those reluctant on-premise accounts.

While just now on tap in Pennsylvania, expect to see it appear in your neighborhood (if you get Yuengling products) over the next few weeks.  Around PA? Drink until your stomach is full at Oktoberfest Presented By Yuengling Sept 29 – Oct. 2 and Oct. 6-9, 2011, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  [PennLive]

Lord Chesterfield hits Atlanta!

Lord Chesterfield Ale has been brewed by Yuengling (Pottsville, PA) since they opened in 1829.  That makes Lord Chesterfield one of America’s oldest beers brewed by America’s oldest brewery.  For the first time, it is being offering this American pale ale in Georgia.

Lord Chesterfield is brewed with a unique two-state European brewing style that enhances bitterness.  The process utilizes kettle hopping (during the boil) and dry hopping (after fermentation.)

Per Yuengling –

“Lord Chesterfield brewed with select hops, its distinct robust flavor is derived from a delicate combination of sweet maltiness and lingering herbal bitterness. Lord Chesterfield Ale’s bright gold color is complemented by a lightly laced foam head and fragrant zesty aroma.”

Taste Expectations – Strong malt backbone with noticeable hops in the finish.  It’s got a light bitter, dry, crisp finish.  Little earthy, little bready.

Availability – Year round – Green bottles, cans, draft.

5.4% ABV

Yuengling Bock – 180th Aniversary Release

Yuengling Bock - 180th Anniversary Release

Just incase you have been living under a rock, Yuengling is America’s oldest Brewery. (1829.) Yes… It outdates Bud, Miller, Schlitz, and yes… even PBR.

2009 Marks Yuengling’s 180th Year of operation. Yuengling even managed to stay open during “The Dark Years” aka prohibition. History lesson aside, Yuengling has released for a limited time – Yuengling Bock. This isn’t Yuengling’s first bock production – but it is indeed the first in recent history.

The first barrels shipped in February, and will only continue for up to 12 weeks. Available only in 1/2 barrels. No word if they will make their way south as it only took 179 and half years TO GET YUENGLING IN GEORGIA!!!!

P.S. I have have had the honor of consuming Y. Bock. It’s so so good. Exactly what you expect from a Yuengling brew.
