Victory Red, a Flemish-style red ale, is on the Pennsylvania based brewery’s lineup in the near future.
This particular type of sour ale got its start in the West Flanders area of Belgium. The sour ale matures in oak barrels with Lactobacillus and/or Sacchromyces. Many bottled Flanders red ales are a blend of young, sweeter, stainless steel fermented beer, and older oak matured beer.
That’s a segway for ‘expertly blended’ seen on the Victory Red label. The brewery touts three years of oak aging that set the stage for the final release.
Our brewers’ passion and dedication to tradition comes to life in this extremely limited Flemish-style sour red ale. Three years in oak barrels, mixed-culture fermentation and expert blending have come together to marry tart and tannic notes from natural oak souring with intense impressions of dark fruit. Victory Red will be a 750 milliliter bottle release. The beer has not yet been announced by the brewery.

The base beer for this is the very well known Victory Golden Monkey, the brewery’s Belgian-style tripel ale, brewed with Westmalle yeast. Victory Sour Monkey takes shape thanks to extended fermentation using Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus (hitting shelves again now).
Victory Sour Monkey Remix takes things a step further with Chardonnay barrel-aging.
Now usually we don’t do this, but sometimes an instant classic is just begging for a Remix. Chardonnay barrel aging puts a whole new spin on our already tastefully twisted Sour Monkey, with notes of vanilla and oak, rounding out its lemony tart tang and dry finish. Experience this exclusive, next level evolution of our beloved Golden Monkey for yourself.
Victory Sour Monkey Remix will be a 750 milliliter bottle conditioned release. The brewery has not officially announced this beer.
Victory Blackboard Series Berliner Weisse with Elderflower is the latest entry in the brewery’s ongoing experimental series.
A blend of Victory’s love of beer and food join forces in a side project of innovation. (The brewery own it’s own beer inspired restaurants making beers like this a no-brainer.) This release features a base beer of berliner weisse, a tart wheat ale, nuanced with the flavor of elderflower.
Herbal and floral aromas emerge from the tart wheat ale as vanilla, wood, and spice impressions compliment a mildly sweet finish, inviting you to Taste Victory!
Victory Blackboard Series Berliner Weisse is the third entry in this new-for-2016 series. Victory Agave IPA with Grapefruit kicked off the line in January, followed by Victory Dry-Hopped Brett Pils. Available in 12 ounce bottles and draft starting in July until December, 2016.
Victory Cage Radler will join the Downingtown, Pennsylvania based brewery’s lineup on May 1st.
For those a little unfamiliar, the word radler is German for “cyclist”. As beer history mentions – in 1922 Franz Xaver Kugler, owner of a Bavarian beerhaus, was running low on beer, with a bar full of 1,000’s of thirsty cyclists. In a pinch, he blended lemon-lime soda (which wasn’t selling anyway because his customers just wanted to drink) and dunkel lager, creating the radler beer, or shandy.
A shandy is a 50/50 mix of beer and lemonade. In the case of Victory Cage Radler, the brewery uses a light lager to blend with lemon extract.
The resulting beer is 3% alcohol by volume, perfect for your demanding cyclist guests, or just to drink on a hot day.
Victory Cage Radler will be available in 12 ounce bottles (in the variety pack) and 12 ounce cans.
Victory Brewing (Downingtown, PA) and Southern Tier Brewing (Lakewood, NY) have united under a new holding company – Artisanal Brewing Ventures (ABV). This new partnership marks the first major brewery financial transaction of 2016.
As Artisanal Brewing Ventures, both Victory Brewing and Southern Tier will independently operate their breweries, which in whole, constitutes 800,000 barrels in potential annual production. The alliance would rank in the top 15 craft brewing companies in the United States (in production volume).
The leadership teams, and employees will remain in tact across both companies.
“Having gotten to know Phin, John and the whole management team, I am more excited than ever about the innovations that lie in our collective futures. One walk through their brewery and I knew that Southern Tier had the same belief in quality and excellence that has driven our culture for 20 years,” explains Ron Barchet, COO of Victory Brewing Company”
Bill Covaleski and Ron Barchet of Victory will be significant shareholders in ABV, and join the Board of Directors. CEO John Coleman and CFO Bill Wild will lead ABV’s management team. The transaction is expected to close in the next 60 days; the final amount of it was not disclosed.
Beer Street Journal spoke with both Victory co-founder Bill Covaleski, and Southern Tier’s Phin DeMink this afternoon. By now, the readers of this site have seen many brewery purchases over the past few years. The influx of money into the small brewery system has changed the competitive climate in Covaleski’s eyes. As the industry evolves, his greatest fear is that some of the United State’s best small brewers may end up competitive enemies, rather than collaborative friends.
Forming a partnership with Southern Tier allows two small/craft breweries to share ideas, collaborate on common goals, and to stay competitive against the new entities with new money and a new edge.
Covaleski spoke very highly of his employees. His commitment to making Victory successful in the future for the staff and fans alike is a main concern. Southern Tier’s DeMink possesses that same commitment. As DeMink puts it, Victory and Southern Tier share the same backyard. This new venture secures the backyard a bit more. ABV and the board will be in charge of the 10,000 foot pieces of the business, including capital expansions, distributor relations, market growth.
Both breweries will operate independently day-to-day -all the way down to the paychecks,
Victory Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA joins the brewery’s lineup this month, as the brewery hits the 20 year mark. The brewery boasts that the “big party” will be in 2017, when Victory is finally “legal” to drink.
Victory Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA is “experimental” in the sense it features a fairly obscure hop (at least for now) – Idaho 7. From the potato state, which is incidentally the third largest hop grower in the U.S. The Idaho 7 hop hails from a part of the state dubbed ‘the shelf’, a remote location with perfect climate and soil for hop growth.
Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA, boasts complex fruity aromas of orange and apricot with hints of mildly astringent black tea-like characters as well as a pleasantly fresh, slightly pine herbal bouquet.
Victory Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA is now available in 12 ounce bottles and draft throughout the brewery’s entire 37 state footprint.

Victory Dry-Hopped Brett Pils is coming to the brewery’s new Blackboard Series in April, 2016.
On January 1, 2016 the first Blackboard Series beer will join the series – an IPA brewed with grapefruit and agave nectar.
There are four releases in the series in 2016, inspired by restaurant blackboard specials. Victory Dry-Hopped Brett Pils is a riff on the brewery’s famous Prima Pils recipe, fermented with Brettanomyces yeast.
