First Spring Seasonal? Redhook Mudslinger Hits Dec 31

Redhook’s Mudslinger will hit shelves again on December 31st. The brewery is the first to admit that they have had an identity crisis over the past few years. (Mudslinger, then Nut Brown. Now Mud again).

Ah, Spring…the season that keeps us guessing.  Will it rain, or will the sun be out?  Do I take advantage of the last days of skiing, or the first days of hiking?  Do I put on jeans, or dare break out the shorts?  The season comes with enough uncertainty, so Redhook gives you something you can always count on…our Mudslinger Brown Ale.  This medium dark beer is layered with rich malty aromas and flavors of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla.  Although it may be dark in color, it’s refreshingly smooth and highly sessionable.  Mudslinger Brown Ale is the perfect beer for spring.

Style: Brown Ale
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Spring seasonal.

5.8% ABV

New Art: Redhook Wise Cracker Wit

It looks like Redhook Ale Brewery (Portsmouth, NH) is naming “Wit” to Wise Cracker Wit. Pretty safe assumption when you see the tag line is the same for both.

Redhook’s twist on the Belgian style is the addition of fresh ginger, which adds a refreshing snappiness to this lighter-bodied wheat beer.  Redhook Wit is perfect for warm summer months of outdoor BBQ-ing, sitting by the pool, or just taking a break by hanging inside enjoying the AC and watching old re-runs of Gilligan’s Island.

Style: Wheat Beer (w/ Ginger)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft. Seasonal

Redhook Double Black Stout (PR)

Woodinville, WA) — Redhook Ale Brewery first brewed Double Black Stout 17 years ago. Since he stopped brewing the beer in 2000 and briefly brought it back for a limited release in 2008, it remains one of Redhook’s most requested beers. Beginning Oct. 29, Black is back. Redhook’s Double Black Stout will be available for a limited time through the brewery’s Blueline Series on draught and in 22-ounce bottles to beer drinkers in Washington and Oregon.

This time around Redhook is brewing up some mischief with Seattle’s own Caffe Vita Coffee Roasting Co. Redhook brewmaster Jen Talley and Caffe Vita green bean buyer Daniel Shewmaker collaborated every step of the way to create a stout so dark no one will know what’s in your mug. Double Black Stout is a robust stout brewed with Farm Direct Caffe Vita coffee to create a complex beer with deep color and aromas, highlighted by rich coffee flavor.

“We are stoked to partner with Caffe Vita to bring back Double Black Stout,” said Talley, Redhook’s brewmaster in Woodinville, Wash. “Daniel and I had a great time tasting different styles of coffee to develop the recipe. This version of Double Black Stout plays on the delicate coffee flavors and aromas with the perfect combination of roast and chocolate character to warm you up as the temperatures drop.”

“When Redhook approached us about partnering to bring back Double Black Stout, we were really excited to work on a project that brings together two Northwest favorites: beer and coffee,” said Caffe Vita’s Shewmaker. “It’s a great partnership. We’re both dedicated to great brewing and we’re excited to share Double Black Stout with our fans.”

Released under Redhook’s Blueline Series, a limited release series brewed specifically for local distribution, Double Black Stout comes in at 7.0% ABV and 40 IBUs. The beer is a robust stout brewed with the generous use of roasted barley, Munich malt and Carafa 3, giving the beer a deep opaque black color. Roasted, chocolate and coffee aromas and flavors round out the beer for a rich, creamy finish.

About the Blueline Series
Launched in 1993, the Redhook Blueline Series is named for the streetcar line that once ran to the Redhook’s former brewery location in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, which was formerly a trolley barn. Redhook’s brewers are a creative bunch and are always cooking up new ideas for beers outside the standard lineup. Several times a year, the best and most interesting of these ideas are brewed and released under the Blueline Series. These special brews are only available for a limited time in 22-ounce bottles and on draft in Redhook’s backyard markets.

About Redhook
Redhook was born out of the energy and spirit of the early ‘80s in the heart of Seattle. While the term didn’t exist at the time, Redhook became one of America’s first “craft” breweries. From a modest start in a former transmission shop in the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard, to the current breweries in Woodinville, Wash., and Portsmouth, N.H., Redhook has become one of America’s most recognized craft breweries. While Redhook has “grown up” during the past 30 years, one thing has never changed — he’s still brewing great beers like ESB, Long Hammer IPA, Pilsner, Copperhook and a variety of seasonal brews. Most importantly, Redhook makes sure he has fun doing it. Redhook’s beers are available on tap and in bottles, and are available in markets across the country. Redhook & Dan Patrick Call An Audible (Ale)

This afternoon I was on a phone call with Dan Patrick (of the Dan Patrick Show) talking about  his partnership with Redhook (Portsmouth, NH). Debuting at the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans in January is Audible Ale, designed with game day drinking in mind. According to Dan, he wanted an approachable beer with a lower ABV. The  goal is to be able to “crush” a few while watching the game. In Dan’s own words, “We’re calling an Audible!”

Audible Ale is weighs in at 4.7% ABV, and will be available on draft and bottles depicting Dan Patrick’s image. Dan Patrick is the host The Dan Patrick Show, and had roles in movies such as BASEketball, The Waterboy, Grown Ups & more.

Expect signage and mention of this upcoming release as Super Bowl XLVII approaches.

Redhook Pumpkin Porter Hits Backyard (PR)

(Portsmouth, NH) — It’s true, summer is nearly over, which means that fall is about to begin. To ensure there’s good beer for every important fall occasion: watching football with buddies; gorging yourself on turkey and pumpkin pie; or celebrating the greatest holiday ever — when everyday women compete to be the sexiest nurses, cats, pirates or police officers —Redhook is releasing Pumpkin Porter.

Redhook’s Pumpkin Porter pays tribute to the season and he’s stoked to release it as the fifth beer in his Brewery Backyard Series.

The dark chestnut brown beer is made with pureed pumpkin, along with light chocolate, Munich, and caramel malts, roasted wheat, oats, and locally malted barley. Cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger are also added during the brewing process, and maple syrup is added to the brew during fermentation.

“We had a lot of fun with this brew,” said Alex Kopf, Redhook senior brewer. “We wanted to make a great porter and added traditional fall flavors — pumpkin, chocolate, maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg — to put a little Redhook twist on the style. Lightly hopped with Northern Brewer hops, Pumpkin Porter is a full-bodied, rich and roasty porter perfect for all things fall — eating turkey, watching football or drinking with your buddies around a bonfire.”

Pumpkin Porter is available for a limited time on draught only in the brewery’s Cataqua Pub in Portsmouth, N.H. and in a handful of bars and beer-centric restaurants in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. The beer is 5.8% ABV and 20 IBU.
