Red Hare Collaborates with Oakshire Brewing

Red Hare Brewing (Marietta, GA) took a trip to Oakshire Brewing (Eugene, OR) over the winter. The two breweries struck a friendship that leads us to this summer offering, based on Oakshire’s Ill Tempered Gnome Winter Ale.

On a recent trip to Oregon, while seeking shelter from a freak blizzard, head brewer from Oakshire Brewery  invited the Red Hare crew to warm up with their sour barrels and hearty winter ales. As a nod to their Ill Tempered Gnome Winter Ale, we decided to collaborate on a summer version, an India Pale Lager. With this collaborative effort, we were able to get enough Citra hops to amok this beer a go. This India Pale Lager has the biscuity, malt flavor profile of a Lager, with the intense bitter, tropical  citrus tones of an IPA.

Style: India Pale Lager
Hops: Citra, Zythos
Malts: Two Row, Bonlander, Munich, 40L Caramel Malts

Availability: Draft only

6.2% ABV, 70 IBUs

Red Hare Brewing & the $2.8 Million Expansion

Red Hare Brewing (Marietta, GA) is currently working on brewery expansion plans. Currently, the growth would come with a price tag of $2.8 million.

This morning the Marietta Daily Journal mentioned a new $40,000 dollar grant to Red Hare by the development authority. The brewery has received tentative approval for funding the expansion, but must raise $500,000 of equity before commencing.

Beer Street Journal is told that, while the expansion is indeed in the works, the local grants, funding and full expansion plans aren’t set in stone yet. Red Hare is considered a few different options for the growth and none of it is set in stone… yet.

Red Hare Brewing opened in 2011, and through their first full year (2012) produced 2,600 barrels (80,600 gallons). This year, the brewery hopes to max out at 7200 barrels (223,200 gallons) of beer.

Over the next three years, the brewery’s $2.8 million dollar planned expansion would add 20 new jobs, and push the maximum capacity to 15,000 barrels annually.

Red Hare Launches New Eco Can

Red Hare Brewing Company (Marietta, GA) announced this week during the Craft Brewer’s Conference in Denver, CO the addition of the “evercan” to their lineup.

The evercan has been created out of a partnership with Novelis, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling. The can features more recycled material than a regular aluminum can. A guaranteed 90% recycled content.

“We were the first micro-brewery in Georgia to package our craft beer in cans two years ago because aluminum cans have a much lower carbon foot print than glass bottles. With the new evercan™ we are getting closer to full-loop recycling, which is the right thing to do for our planet.

Red Hare currently features Long Day Lager, Watership Brown, and Gangway IPA in cans, and will be transitioning the full lineup to the evercan.

Red Hare Releasing Rauchbier

Red Hare Brewing Company has readied the next edition in the Rabbit’s Reserve series: Rauchbier. The Rabbit’s Reserve is a series of draft only, on-off releases. Rauchbier, or smoke beer, uses smoked and dark roasted malts.

Rauchbier is reminiscent of a German-style Oktoberfest and can literally be translated to “smoked beer”. Munich, smoked, and dark roasted malts provide this brew with its softly smoked flavor and smooth maltyness. It is lightly bittered in order not to overwhelm the palate and to keep the smoky malt profile upfront. This is a particularly aromatic brew with hints of bacon coming through on the nose. Golden copper in color, and surprisingly drinkable this beer comes in at 6.8% ABV.

If you go:

Saturday, September 28th. 2-4 pm. Live music, food trucks, and Rauchbier.

1998 Delk Industrial Blvd, Marietta, GA 30067.
