Oskar Blues & DC Brau “Smells Like Freedom” Smells Like Weed

Oskar Blues Brewery and DC Brau have definitely made a statement with their newest beer, Smells Like Freedom. What does it smell like? Weed.

Smells Like Freedom is a tribute to Initiative 71 that legalized marijuana in Washington D.C. in late February. It is now legal to possess and grow pot in the district, yet it cannot be bought or sold.

The two brewery team came up with IPA that contains a mix of hops that smells like fresh cannabis.

Both Oskar Blues and DC Brau brewed Smells Like Freedom at their breweriesA majority of the release is draft, the cans are exclusive to Washington D.C.

Smells Like Freedom debuted at a special party in the nation’s capital on March 17th.

Style: IPA
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. 120 Barrels (nearly 4,000 gallons)

Oskar Blues GUBNA sports new hops, drops can distribution

Oskar Blues Gubna

Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA returns to the seasonal lineup for the sixth year. Cans won’t be easy to find this season.

The hoppiest beer in the brewery’s lineup gets a hop tweak with every release. The idea is to find and brew with the most sticky, dank hops Oskar Blues can find. The 2017 blend features Azacca, Sterling, and Crystal hops chosen from sensory panels at each of OB’s breweries.

“The traditional hops beat out some newer, experimental varietals this year, which surprised many of us here at OB, But the hops just spoke to the nearly 100 employees that participated in GUBNA hop selection and we must obey the rub.”Oskar Blues GUBNA is available in 12oz cans (4 packs) from March until July, seasonally. – Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations.

The 10% alcohol by volume, 100+ IBU Oskar Blues Gubna will only be found on draft, unless you find yourself in one of the brewery’s taprooms.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Azacca, Sterling, Crystal
Malts: Rye, North American Pale, Munich

Availability: Draft. March-July, Seasonal. Cans in the tap room.

10% ABV, 100+ IBUs

Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Gets Hollywood Love in “Tammy” [PICS]

Recently released (on BluRay, digital download, RedBox or however you watch movies these days) is Tammy. The movie features a very awkward Melissa McCarthy and her grandmother played by Susan Sarandon.

Sarandon chugs her share of Oskar Blue’s Dale’s Pale Ale (along with Melissa) for a good bit of the film. There’s even a scene where Sarandon’s character is told she can’t drink beer (Dale’s), and she says”No, it’s my juice.”

The cans are from the brewery’s Brevard, North Carolina location. The placement makes sense too, as most of the principal photography was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

SweetWater, Terrapin and Jailhouse have seen a good bit of silver screen love in The Walking Dead over the past couple of seasons.

I bet she could drink me under the table.
