New Realm Brewing collaborates with popsicle star King of Pops

New Realm Push Cart BGL Belgian Ale

Atlanta gets hot, and popsicle maker King of Pops is always there with frosty, cold, unique flavors. Incidentally, New Realm Brewing does the same thing – with cold beer. Fusing the innovative flavors of the two just makes sense now summer is here.

King of Pops and New Realm sat in the brewery’s barrel-room tasting their way through popsicles and pairing it with beer. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. According to Carey Falcone, co-founder of New Realm, found the Blackberry Ginger Lemon pop paired beautifully with their Belgian-style ale.

“The clear favorite was their Blackberry Ginger Lemon pop with our Belgian style beer, so we put together a recipe that would allow for the popsicle base to blend excellently with beer. What our brewers came up with is a cool beer with a refreshing fruity character.” – Carey Falcone

The result is BGL Belgian Ale, a fusion of ginger, blackberry and lemon pop flavors with the esters of a Belgian-style blonde ale. This first of this series debuts today, June 25th, in 12-ounce cans and draft, available in limited quantities in Georgia.

Style: Belgian Blonde Ale (w/ Ginger. Lemon. Blackberry.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: 6/25/19

New Realm Brewing opens Virginia Beach location

New Realm Brewing Virginia Beach

New Realm Brewing opened their first location just days after the start of 2018 in Atlanta. The brewpub was a record breaker in size for The Peach State. By spring, New Realm was at brewing capacity. Founders Carey Falcone, Bob Powers, and Mitch Steele were running at full speed but still had their eye on more.

While spring was looking great for the trio in Atlanta, the news was breaking about California based Green Flash. Comerica Bank was foreclosing on their bank loan, and their CEO was exiting the business. Their new Virginia Beach location was in peril.

Carey Falcone told Beer Street Journal back in April how surprised he was about the Green Flash news. Despite the situation, the location and brewing equipment price was too good to pass up. At the time, they were going to just sit on the capital purchase.

Instead, New Realm opted to go full steam ahead. This summer was spent giving the location facelift and prepping for New Realm Brewing Virginia Beach. Today it opens to the public.

Mitch Steele will head up this second brewhouse as well – a 50 barrel system with an annual capacity of 40,000 barrels with space for 1,000s more. Draft will be distributed around the area through Hoffman Beverage, with cans coming in 2019.

According to Falcone, New Realm is investing heavily in the new facility in the coming year, including an outdoor bar, quality control lab, and full kitchen with 400 seat restaurant.

The tasting room and beer garden are open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

New Realm Brewing wins bid on Green Flash Brewing’s Virginia equipment

Atlanta based New Realm Brewing ready to grow in their first six months of operation. The brewery has won the bidding for Green Flash assets of their east coast facility.

PICS: INSIDE NEW REALM BREWING

The 58,000 square foot facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia was built by San Diego based Green Flash Brewing. The facility was recently closed after Comerica Bank foreclosed on outstanding bank loans to Green Flash/Alpine Beer brands.

New Realm has confirmed the purchase of the brewhouse and is currently discussing potential ideas for the existing Green Flash lease on the taproom.

American Beer Works of which New Realm founder Carey Falcone has the lead role, also purchased a $5 million dollar tract of land in Charlotte, North Carolina last fall. Falcone told Beer Street Journal in February that this land is earmarked for a future New Realm build, but there are no immediate plans to expand to the city.

According to Bob Powers in a just-issued press release, New Realm’s current facility in Atlanta is already at capacity after just four months, and 60-barrel tank expansions.

First This equipment acquisition is a unique opportunity to meet growing demand while continuing to focus on quality and consistency. This new equipment will allow our team to brew even more of the beer that we feel passionate about.”  Bob Powers, Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder

In a phone call with Powers and Falcone, the duo reiterated their commitment Atlanta. “The city has truly embraced us, and we couldn’t be more grateful,” Falcone said. “We have no plans to distribute to any state we aren’t physically brewing in.

“This opportunity to buy this equipment was a deal we couldn’t pass up,” Powers elaborated. “The situation surrounding it is unfortunate, but considering our capacity issues already, we were going to have to make a move regardless,” he said.

Powers and Falcone have been planning to purchase another brewhouse, but that plan wasn’t so immediate until the Green Flash auction. The duo is still discussing what to do with the newly acquired equipment. The Virginia Beach facility was built for Green Flash, and subsequently leased to them. “There’s a lot of opportunity with that space” Falcone admits, “but we’re not sure we’re ready for that undertaking yet.”

New Realm started canning Euphonia Pilsner and Hoplandia IPA in March. Currently, the brewery only distributes to Atlanta and some surrounding cities.

It’s springtime in Atlanta, the demand for New Realm is extremely high, and all their tanks are full.

It’s going to be a great summer.
