Jolly Pumpkin’s deVienta Benefits Tornado Relief

Jolly Pumpkin DeVienta

Jolly Pumpkin (Dexter, MI) plans on releasing a beer benefiting their hometown after a tornado. Tragically, parts of Dexter were damaged thanks to a tornado that missed the brewery but not some of their neighbors.

March 15th, 2012 a tornado tore through Dexter, missing the brewery, but not all of our neighbors. What could we do to help? Hmmm.  We do know how to make beer. So make beer is what we did. This beer. Teaming up with co conspirators Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company and Schera’s/ The Abu Nawas Beverage Company to create a collaborative beer like noneother.

A dark and smoky sour Saison full of rich aromatic coffee and the spicy heat of a secret Algerian spice blend. Proceeds go to the Dexter Relief Fund.

Jolly Pumpkin Takes to the Hawaiian Islands for Latest Collaborative Beer: Sobrehumano Palena ‘Ole (PR)

Jolly Pumpkin Takes to the Hawaiian Islands for Latest Collaborative Beer: Sobrehumano Palena ‘Ole

(DEXTER, Mich) — Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales has released its latest collaboration beer — Sobrehumano Palena ‘Olo — a red ale brewed with liliko’i and Michigan cherries — brewed with Maui Brewing Company. Brewers Ron Jeffries (Jolly Pumpkin) and John Walsh (Maui Brewing) spent time in each other’s breweries earlier this year to craft this ale. Both versions of Sobrehumano Palena ‘Ole were introduced at SAVOR, an annual craft beer and food exposition, held in Washington DC each June.

Maui Brewing Company used standard fermentation to produce approximately 4000 cases of cans and 80 barrels in draft for its version. This is the brewery’s first collaboration beer.

The Jolly Pumpkin version is an open-fermented, barrel aged and bottle conditioned sour ale, using naturally occurring wild yeasts. Approximately 850 cases of 750ml bottles and 20 draft barrels have been produced by Jolly Pumpkin. This brew is available in draft and bottles, with special glassware, at the Jolly Pumpkin Pub and Cafe in Downtown Ann Arbor. It has also just launched nationally and will be shipped to Michigan wholesalers in immediate future. It will also be available for sampling at the 15th Annual Michigan Summer Beer Festival, July 27-28, in Ypsilanti.

Maui Brewing Company has built a reputation for creating handcrafted beers brewed using their finest natural ingredients. Founded in 2005, Maui Brewing is one of Hawaii’s fastest growing companies and the island’s only microbrewery. All beers from Maui Brewing are packaged in cans, which can be recycled and aid in sustainining the state’s vibrant tourism industry.

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is dedicated to more than the traditions of old world craftsmanship. Everything they do is designed to create ales of outstanding art and flavor. Focusing on traditional rustic country style beers brought to life through labor and love, Jolly Pumpkin strives to create beers to lighten the spirit and soothe the soul

Jolly Pumpkin Sobrehuman Palenaole

Jolly-Pumpkin Sobrehuman Palenaole Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter, MI) and  Maui Brewing Co (Lahaina, Maui, HI) recently collaborated to create  Sobrehumano Palena ‘ole or “superhuman”. It is actually Maui’s first collaboration in a can, brewed with passionfruit and cherries.  The above is Jolly Pumpkin’s edition of the collab. What’s the beer? Each brewery will add its own unique spin — as Maui will ferment normally (arriving in cans), and Jolly Pumpkin will make it  a barrel aged sour (in bottles).

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii.Cherries & liliko’i. Starting to see the connection. I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles msy separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisit Hipa! -Ron Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

Where? Maui will produce 4,000 cases & 80 barrels, distributed in all 11 states in which the brewery currently ships.   Ed. Note: Jolly Pumpkin most likely will not know yield until barrel blending time.

Style: Red Ale (Maui) / Ambiguous Style (Jolly Pumpkin)  (w/ CherriesPassionfruit)
Availability: 12 oz cans (Maui), 750 ml bottles (Jolly Pumpkin)
Arrival: June, 2012 (SAVOR)
