Coffee Collab: Flat 12 Downtown Tinker Brown

Flat 12 Downtown Tinker Brown

Buzz beer might be the perfect term for Flat 12 Downtown Tinker Brown. The Indianapolis, Indiana based brewery has a coffee laden seasonal headed to shelves.

It may be too early to think about spring seasonals, but you’ll be able to enjoy this one until it feels warmer. Sean Lewis, Flat 12’s head brewer, created a brown ale brewed with milk sugar, and single-origin Colombian coffee beans roasted to by the experts at Tinker Coffee.

“We met the guys at Tinker Coffee through mutual friends around their opening November 2014. We really liked their coffee so we paid them a visit and proposed trading for beer. That led to talks about creating some beers together. It’s cool to be able to work with friends in different local industries and we’re really looking forward to our first can release.” – Head Brewer Sean Lewis

This is the first time the duo have created a full scale collaboration. Last year, Tinker Coffee provided beans for a variant of Flat 12’s Pinko Russian Imperial Stout.

Flat 12 Downtown Tinker Brown is now available in 12 ounce cans and draft, as a spring 2017 seasonal.

Style: Brown Ale (w/ Coffee. Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Spring Seasonal.
Debut: 1/6/17

Spotlight: Flat12 Cucumber Kolsch

Flat 12 Cucumber Kolsch can

Flat12 Cucumber Kolsch is coming to cans this month. The Indianapolis, Indiana brewery unique spin on the German style is a summer favorite.

The brewery’s can line is about 2 years old; having already canned Upside Down Blonde, Half Cycle IPA and Hinchtown Hammerdown.

Flat12’s summer seasonal begins with lager qualities owed to pilsner malt and cold fermentation. It pours a deep gold color with smooth drinkability and a super-refreshing finish from an infusion of cucumber. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a hot summer day. You’ll stay cool as a cucumber with this Kölsch.

The big question… do cucumber and kolsch go well together? We’d like to think so. The Beer Street Journal team spent the July 4th weekend killing a six pack. The kolsch style isn’t the easiest style to brew and Flat12 has done a tasty job. The cucumber flavor just adds to the refreshment, making this beer even more summer-y.

Flat12 Cucumber Kolsch is now available in the taproom and distribution.

Pinko Russian Imperial Stout will follow in late summer, Flat Jack Pumpkin Ale in August, and a new fall seasonal in September.

Style: Kolsch (w/ Cucumber)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut (Cans): June, 2016

5.2% ABV, 28 IBUs
