Boulevard Berliner Weisse

Boulevard Berliner Weisse is now available, a part of the brewery’s fall seasonal lineup.

Few beer styles can match the delicate, sparkling character of the classic Berliner Weisse, with its light body and tart palate. It’s said that Napoleon’s troops referred to it as “The Champagne of the North,” high praise for beer, coming from Frenchmen. With Berliner Weisse, we pay tribute to the style, while giving it a distinctively American twist. Bright and thirst-quenching, the beer is enlivened by soft lactic notes.

Boulevard Berliner Weisse is available in 12-ounce bottles and draft, from August to October, 2017.

Style: Berliner Weisse
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Aug-Oct
Debut: August 2017

4.5% ABV

New Seasonal: Boulevard Tough Kitty Milk Stout

Boulevard Tough Kitty Milk Stout

A lot of breweries have cats. Kansas City, Missouri is home to a new feline, and it’s a tough one. Meet Boulevard Tough Kitty Milk Stout.

This new seasonal stout leads with flavors of chocolate and caramel flavors thanks to the beer’s malt bill. Rolled oats and lactose ensure this beer is silky smooth.

Subtle hopping with Bravo and Cascade creates just enough bitterness to prevent the beer from being overly cloying. Deep black in color, Tough Kitty opens with aromas of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and toffee that transition to flavors of the same. The addition of lactose, a non-fermentable sugar, works with the rolled oats to deliver a creamy, lingering finish.

Boulevard Tough Kitty Milk Stout is available in 12-ounce bottles and draft, as a seasonal release.

Style: MIlk Stout (w/ Lactose.)
Hops: Bravo, Cascade
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: August 2017

5.5% ABV, 27 IBUs

Boulevard Show Me Sour debuts in the “Show Me” State

Boulevard Show Me Sour Bottle

Boulevard Show Me Sour debuts in the “Show Me” state this week. The first in a line of sessionable sours.

This beer first appeared in 2015 as a collaboration between Boulevard’s brewmaster Steven Pauwels and and Side Project’s Cory King. Both brewers are inspired by low alcohol, Belgian table beers.

Show Me Sour features 2 Row Pale, Maris Otter, and Amber 50 malt, plus Midnight Wheat. It is brewhouse soured, and after primary fermentation, was transferred into second use oak whiskey barrels. The final beer was blended back with fresh beer, resulting in a beer-y take on the whiskey sour cocktail.

Boulevard Show Me Sour is pleasantly puckering and an excellent choice alongside burnt ends, rum cake, salads with acidic dressings and soft cheeses. – Jeremy Danner, Ambassador Brewer

Boulevard Chocolate Ale in on an indefinite hiatus

Boulevard Chocolate Ale, one of the brewery’s most popular beers, won’t be a part of the beer lineup in 2017. The beer first debuted in 2011.

The American strong ale was a special collaboration with Kansas City chocolatier Christopher Elbow. Earlier this year, Boulevard released a variation of the popular dessert beer, Chocolate Ale with Raspberries.

The brewery wouldn’t go as far to say Chocolate Ale is gone for good. Just think of it as on-hold. For at least a while. Boulevard Funky Pumpkin has seen its last year, even though 2016 is only the second year it was released.

The 2017 lineup boasts a few new releases coming to the Smokestack Series, including Scotch-on-Scotch.

[Original Post below, for 2015 Chocolate Ale release.)

One of Boulevard Brewing’s (Kansas City, MO) most popular beers, Chocolate Ale, will release again the first week of February, 2015.

Chocolate Ale is a collaboration with Kansas City’s chocolatier Christopher Elbow. Boulevard brewmaster Steven Pauwels and Elbow used a special chocolate variety from the Dominican Republic. The result is a magical and delicious balance of malt, hops and chocolate.

Chocolate Ale is full of surprises, beginning with a glowing amber hue. The aroma is given over to earthy, fruity cocoa, with just a hint of hops. Smooth layers of dark chocolate intertwine with threads of caramel, vanilla, and nutty malt as the flavor warms and rounds to a bittersweet finish.

Boulevard Chocolate Ale was first released in 2011. The demand has been so high since then, the brewery has increased the amount brewed and packaged every year. In both 2014, and again in 2015, Boulevard has brewed the maximum amount possible for the production schedule.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Chocolate)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Corked & Caged
Latest Return: Early 2015. Retired, 2016.

9.1% ABV

New year-round can: Boulevard American Kolsch

Boulevard American Kolsch

Debuting this week in Kansas City, Missouri is a new year-round beer, Boulevard American Kolsch.

Avid fans of the brewery have seen this beer once before, part of the Tasting Room Series a short while ago. Boulevards states folks became obsessed with it, wanting it to be brewed again.

Boulevard American Kolsch is inspired by the traditional German style, brewed with European pilsner malt, pale malt and a touch of malted wheat. The hop bill includes Saphir and Saaz hops.

Pouring golden in color, the aroma is of bready malt punctuated by a slightly minty hop character. With a light to medium mouthfeel, American Kolsch delivers a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp, clean finish with a touch of lingering herbal/citrusy hop flavor.

Boulevard American Kolsch debuts on draft on January 30th, and in 12 ounce cans the following day.

Style: Kolsch
Hops: Saphir, Saaz

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round
Debut: 1/31/17
