Anderson Valley’s Barrel Aged Series: Huge Arker Bourbon Barrel

Last year, Anderson Valley partnered with Wild Turkey Distillery.  The move was to give the brewery more access to bourbon barrels, allowing all their markets as taste of their barrel aged offerings.

First up in the barrels was Barney Flatts Oatmeal Stout. First available in draft in 2012, bottles arrived in early 2013. Another brew joining the series is Huge Arker Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout.

The imperial stout (stout?) spent 6 months in Wild Turkey prior to bottling. As with release #1, expect both draft and bottles offerings.

Style: Stout (Barrel Aged. Bourbon)
Availability: 22oz Bombers, Draft
Arrival: TBA

6.9% ABV

Ed. Note: Anderson Valley has a Russian imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels by the name of Huge Arker that has made a tap room appearance. That release is around 11% ABV.

Anderson Valley Launches El Steinber in Tallboys

Anderson Valley Brewing Company has upgraded El Steinber Dark Lager to 16oz “pounder” cans. They are shipping this week. Back in September of 2012, AVBC launched El Steinber as a draft only offering in California, slowing making its way to tap handles around the country. It’s tall boy time for the dark lager.

…  “We recently added a second canning line that gave us the ability to use larger formats, so why not package our first full-production lager in our first sixteen ounce can?”

Style: Dark Lager
Availability: Draft, 16oz cans
Arrival: Late April, 2013. All AVBC distribution markets

Anderson Valley Releases Bourbon Barrel Stout Bottles

Last year, Anderson Valley Brewing announced they were pairing with Wild Turkey Bourbon for a new barrel aged series. For the first release, the brewery selected Barney Flatts Oatmeal Stout to spend sometime with Wild Turkey. This is the first bottle release in the Turkey series, with more to be announced in the future. It barely hits 7% ABV, so don’t hold back long on this one. Bourbon Barrel Stout is terrific fresh.

Style: American Stout (Barrel Aged, Wild Turkey)
Availability: 22oz bottles, Draft. Limited release

Anderson Valley Brewing Company to Release Dark Lager

“El Steinber” to be first full-production lager

brewed by the craft beer pioneer

Boonville, CA (September 12, 2012)  Anderson Valley Brewing Company announced today that starting in September, a new Dark Lager will join its portfolio of award-winning ales.  “El Steinber” is the brewery’s newest core offering in nearly seven years and its first full-production lager.   Debuting in select markets as a draft-only offering beginning in September 2012, national distribution of both draft and package will follow in early 2013.

“We’ve crossed a new border with the release of ‘El Steinber,’” says Fal Allen, Brewmaster for Anderson Valley.  “We wanted to create a sessionable dark lager with a twist.  In our somewhat unusual take on the style, we add Midnight Wheat malt to give this beer its dark brown color, but also use roasted Indio-Hispano® blue corn flour to lighten the body and create a unique, toasty flavor.  German Pilsner malt and Saaz hops round out this beer, producing a crisp, clean finish and smooth drinkability that is perfect for any occasion.”

As for the name “El Steinber,” Allen says it’s a combination of Spanish and Boontling (the local Anderson Valley dialect created in the late 1800s).  Literally meaning “The Beer,” he explains its origin this way:  “We were looking for a unique name that represented both the Latin influence of the Indio-Hispano® blue corn while keeping the heritage of our native Boontling alive.  Eventually we decided upon ‘El Steinber’ and the image of Barkley in a serape; it’s meant to be fun and quirky, and show that although we’re committed to brewing world-class craft beer, we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”
