Troeg’s Master of Pumpkins returns to lineup

Troegs Master of Pumpkins has made a 2015 return, across the brewery’s entire distribution footprint.

Troegs Master of Pumpkins uses Pennsylvania gourds grown just a few miles from the brewery. Take those and add a few pie spices and autumn is starting to take shape. In an interesting twist, the beer uses a French saison yeast, for a fun flavor profile.

Troegs Master of Pumpkins boasts flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, and honey. Available in 375 milliliter bottles.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, Nutmeg)
Hops: Northern Brewer
Malts: Munich, Pilsner, Special

Availability: 375ml Bottles

Troeg’s Bottles Mad Elf 2014

Troeg’s Brewing (Hershey, PA) has already started bottling seasonal offering, Mad Elf.  The brewery announced it on Instagram Tuesday afternoon, but later deleted the post.

Mad Elf is a Belgian-style strong ale, brewed with cherries and honey. No word if it will be head to shelves sooner rather than later. in 2012, the beer was available prior to Halloween.

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale (w/ Sweet & Sour Cherries, Honey)
Hops: Saaz, Hallertau
Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Hallertau
Yeast: Spicy Belgian

Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Fall/Winter Seasonal

Troeg’s Scratch #125 Released

Troeg’s Brewing (Hershey, PA) releases Scratch #125 today.  This release is a Cranberry Porter.

Since the cranberry resonates with so many people during this time of year, we thought, “Why not brew a cranberry beer?” Typically, cranberries are viewed as too bitter and sour to eat raw. However, this magic ingredient lends a pleasant tart, fruity finish and complements the roasty character of this robust porter, giving Scratch #125 a simple yet festive charm.

Style: Porter (w/ Cranberries)
Availability: Draft only. One time release

Troeg’s Releases Scratch #117

Troeg’s (Hershey, PA) has a whole brewing system dedicated to the Scratch Beer Series.  Scratches are typically one-off experiments, in draft and/or bottles. #117 arrives today. A helles bock.

 Essentially, the Helles Bock is a Helles Lager brewed to bock strength. While as strong as a traditional bock in terms of alcohol content, a Helles is lighter in color and has a more substantial hop presence. Think of it as Troegenator’s feisty little brother. Availability: draft and growler fills only.

Stubborn Beer is Trying to Be Troeg’s Next Splinter

A new “color” will join Troegs Brewing Company’s (Hershey, PA) Splinter lineup. The colorful series of big beers currently has four entries- Black, Red, Gold, and Blue. The story of this brew started two years ago with a dubbel (Scratch #34) that wouldn’t re-ferment in the bottle. The never say die brewers placed this grumpy brew in wine barrels, and crossed their fingers for future plans.

Since then, the brewers have worked on using different yeasts on #34, and at one point tried to bottle it. That didn’t work out so well either. Earlier this year, the barrels of stubborn #34 were sampled again, to reveal a fantastic brett character (good flavor by the yeast.) What’s up with it now? Carbonating. Perhaps this beer will finally shape up and cooperate to it can see the big show. Public release.
