Widmer Brothers Throws Back Original Three Recipes

Widmer Brothers Brewing (Portland, OR) is celebrating 30 years of craft brewing in an epic way, with 30 different beer releases. Some are throwbacks the brothers brewed over the past three decades. Others are special collaborations with local breweries.

Today, three more offerings are ready to go – Altbier, Weizenbier, & Hefeweizen.

Altbier – Released in 1984. First beer Kurt and Rob Widmer brewed when they opened the brewery. Named beer of the year in 1985. It still makes an appearance every so often. 5% ABV, 35 IBUs.

Weizenbier, 1985 – A filtered German-style wheat beer with an American hop profile. The brewery’s second release, leading they way for their third release in history. 4.9% ABV, 30 IBUs.

Hefeweizen – First brewed in 1986. Widmer’s third offering. 4.9% ABV, 30 IBUs

“Looking back at these three releases puts our early days and growth of Widmer Brothers Brewing since then in perspective,” said Rob Widmer. “Like many young entrepreneurs, we were flying by the seat of our pants, and it’s truly surreal to revisit that time in our lives when Altbier, Weizenbier, and Hefeweizen were our only three offerings. I suppose it’s an understatement to say we’ve come a long way.”

Each recipe is brewed from notes taken back in the 80’s. All three offerings will be released in the Portland market. More: Widmer Brothers 30 Beers for 30 Years
