Flying Dog Roasted Peanut Brown Ale

Flying Dog Brewery (Frederick, MD) is working on a new cookie inspired beer series.

The brewery looks to be teaming up with Baltimore based Otterbein’s Bakery to create offerings like Flying Dog Roasted Peanut Brown Ale. The mixed pack, (which looks to contain various cookie themed brews) are all to be paired with the bakery’s cookies.

A Baltimore mainstay since 1881, the Otterbien’s cookie recipes have ben passed down among five generations. Flying Dog is Maryland’s largest craft brewery and has been part of the U.S. craft beer revolution for 25 years.  Each of the beers in this package were brewed exclusively Marylanders by Marylanders. Flying Dog Roasted Peanut Brown Ale will be a 12oz bottle release, in a mixed pack. A Maryland release only. More details to follow.

Karl Strauss Re-releases Peanut Butter Cup Porter

It has become an instant hit already. Karl Strauss’ Peanut Butter Cup Porter was first released in 2012 and 80 kegs were killed in 5 days. With more on the way, Karl is bringing a 40 barrel batch to Los Angeles Beer Week this year. That’s 80 more to last the week.

The beer is brewed with chocolate and caramel malts with some peanut powder. Cocoa nibs are added for extra chocolate flavor. The final product is roasty porter flavor with a smooth chocolate and peanut butter finish.

The brewery plans on bottling this in the future. (The next whale for sure.)

Movie Theater Food Themed Beer Debuts This Week

One of the most interesting collaborations yet in 2012 has to be Snack Attack!  A three way brew with Bluejacket Brewery (opening in 2013), Funky Buddha and Cigar City.  The beer is inspired by movie theater food.   The beer is brewed with Florida sea salt, cacao nibs, vanilla beans and dry-roasted peanuts. Cigar City says expect this flavor when you’re drinking.

…peanut butter cups, milk duds, black licorice, chocolate-covered peanuts and salted caramel.

First available in Cigar City’s tap room on Thursday at 11 am. No growlers.
