Sierra Nevada Belgian Style Golden Arrives This Summer

Sierra Nevada Ovila Golden Ale

Sierra Nevada’s Ovila Series expands this summer with Belgian- Style Golden.  The Ovila series is a montastic collaboration with the monks of New Clairvaux in California.

This abbey ale is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the monks, at the Abbey of New Clairvaux. Belgian inspired golden ales are noted for their devilish personalities, but there is nothing mischievous about this complex ale. It is brilliant golden and layered with notes of summery apple and pear and pepperv spice from the use of a traditional Belgian yeast strain. A portion of proceeds from this ale goes toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Ovila chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux.  This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery 1931 and planned use the stones for  a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s, plans crumbled. these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

Style: Belgian Golden Ale
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Draft
Arrival: Summer, 2012

8.5% ABV

Sierra Nevada Bourbon Quad Headed For Festivals

Be on the lookout for this at upcoming festivals.  Right now Sierra Nevada blending a bourbon barreled edition of Ovila Quad. Destined for festivals.   There are other bourbon barrel Sierra Nevada beers out in the wild, including Barrel Aged Trippel, and Bourbon Fritz & Kens.  Be on the lookout for a Barrel Aged Bigfoot this year too.

Note: A reader mentioned that this batch could be ANOTHER small batch edition of a Sierra Nevada Quadrupel.  Is it Ovila? Pure speculation that it is.  It’s been in the barrels for a while, which would have been around the same time Quad was bottled in preparation for shipment.  Pure speculation on our part.
