Terrapin Rye Cubed Back in Monster Beer Tour Lineup

Terrapin Rye Cubed 2015

Terrapin Rye-Cubed, the bigger, badder, and boozier version of the brewery’s Rye Squared, is back on the Monster Beer Tour again.

This initial idea was to square the Rye Squared ingredients, that was until they thought about the math. Brewmaster and co-founder “Spike” tells Beer Street Journal:

We were trying to figure out how to cube the ingredients. Basically, we are doubling everything going into Rye Squared. It is big. Very big.

At 10.3% ABV, big is an understatement. Terrapin Rye Cubed will be “destroying palates from Athens to Tokyo” again in July, 2015. Available in 12oz bottles and draft for a limited time.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Rye)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft
Return: July, 2015

10.3% ABV

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA Details Announced

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA will join the brewery’s Monster Beer Tour in March. The imperial IPA will change with each release, highlighting a new, experimental hop.

The 2015 inaugural release of Terrapin Hop Selection IPA features Ella hops, from Australia. The hop the little sister of Galaxy hops, giving the beer a tropical flavor. Brewery co-founder “Spike” Buchowski travels to Yakima Valley, Washington each fall to hand select hops for the brewery. Needless to say, Ella hops made an impression.

Terrapin will be using Ella hops from the 2014 harvest. Ella (previously called Stella), the descendent of a Spalt-derived male and half-sister to Galaxy, is considered an aroma hop though with her higher alpha acid content of 14 – 16% she can also lend a hand in bittering. Ella has an interesting aroma of spicy hoppiness backed with softer floral notes and a touch of anise, which is a contrast to the big citrus/tropical fruit and pine notes of many modern hops used in American craft beers.

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA is replacing Terrapin’s other imperial IPA, Hopzilla. Available in 12oz bottles.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Ella
Malts: 2-Row Pale, Vienna, CaraPilsner, Honey Malt

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Seasonal Release, different each year.
Release: March, 2015

8.4% ABV

Terrapin All American Pilsner Returns

Terrapin All American

In honor of this years presidential election, Terrapin Beer Co’s All American Pilsner returns from retirement. This year’s batch is much bigger than ever before.  Speaking of beers out of retirement, you have an opportunity to vote to bring a Terrapin beer back from retirement.

The All-American Imperial Pilsner is the beer that has inspired all this democratic fervor at Terrapin. The AAIP began its career as one of the original members of the Monster Beer Tour. Originally released in 2005 as a 7.5% Pilsner with 75 IBUs, it was brewed withall American malts, hops, yeast, and water. Rich, malty, and with an extreme hoppy profile, this was truly a Terrapin-style Pilsner. The plan to bring the Pilsner back for the Presidential Election was born when the AAIP was retired. It softened the blow to the beer’s many fans to know that it was not gone forever… just on hiatus! It’s back now once again; representing classic German style but with anAll-American flair!

Style: Imperial Pilsner
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft.

8.6% ABV, 80 IBUs
