Lost Abbey’s Track #10: Meatloaf, Ships

The Lost Abbey’s Track #10, the highest rated offering from from the brewery’s Ultimate Box Set, has shipped again. The set was a series of one-off releases, featuring special blends and treatments from Lost Abbey’s lineup. This isn’t the first beer from the series that saw a wider release, as last year Track #8 showed up on shelves.

The original details about this release below…

The Lost Abbey released Track #10 on October 20, 2012. This edition is fresh Serpent’s Stout aged in bourbon barrels.  Right before packaging, the brewery added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO cacao nibs. Each of the Ultimate Box Set beers echoes a hard rock track. For #10, it’s Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell.

Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee, Cacao Nibs, Barrel Aged)
Availability:  12.7 oz bottles. Limited
First Release: 10/20/12
Release #2: January, 2015.
Distribution: Entire Lost Abbey Network

Lost Abbey Track #11: Devil Went Down To Georgia

We are close to rounding out the year of Lost Abbey Ultimate Box Set Releases. The 11th release is influenced by Charlie Daniels “Devil Went Down To Georgia.” A perfect title, as this edition features peaches, & black tea.  Lost Abbey took Angel’s Share and aged it fresh Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 9 months. From there, fresh peaches, black tea and Brettanomyces (wild yeast) was added for a little funk.

Why? Tomme Arthur (Founder, Lost Abbey) had a sweet tea peach bourbon drink at Seattle Beer Week a few years ago. He wanted to brew a beer to mimic those flavors.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Peaches, Barrel Aged, Brett)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. Brewery release only. Drink on site only.
Arrival: November 10, 2012

12% ABV

Lost Abbey + Guns n’ Roses = Track #9

A new month, and another Lost Abbey Ultimate Box Set Release. September’s release pays tribute to the Guns n’ Roses cover of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. Each of these rare releases in a blend of even more rare Lost Abbey beers. For Track #9, the brewery took some Cuvee de Tomme that wasn’t ready in time for the 2011 release and added currants, plus extra brettanomyces yeast. (The funky stuff.)

Left to nature’s devices, the currants married into the raisin and cherry already present in the beer and created a full-bodied fruit intensity we hadn’t quite expected. Liking what we tasted, we decided to bump the melange with an addition of Brettanomyces for a little extra oomph. The results are a unique blend that delivers a great combination of plummy fruits, round malts and just enough funk to remind you Brett’s in the house and doing her thing.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Currants, Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. Brewery release only. To be consumed on premise only.
Arrival: September 15, 2012

9.7% ABV
