Montana: Philipsburg Brewing Vorfreude coming in September
Philipsburg Brewing Vorfreude debuts in September, an all-new release by the Montana based brewery.
Finally, lagers are hot again in the craft brewing industry. Coming to Philipsburg Brewing’s lineup in September is a new Vienna Lager – Vorfreude. The German word for which the beer gets its name doesn’t have an English counterpart. Best we can figure out, it means “joyful anticipation”.
Vorfreude is built on Vienna and Munich malts from Proximity Malts. Philipsburg uses whole flower hops in all their beer releases. For this lager, the brewing team chose Nugget for bittering, and Tettnager for aroma.
Interestingly, Philipsburg uses Ball Alumi-tek reclosable aluminum pints for all their year-round releases. Sun King in Indiana uses similar packaging for their specialty/barrel-aged releases. Few if any other craft breweries are actively using this format year-round.
Philipsburg Vorfreude will be available in 16-ounce Alumi-tek bottles and draft starting in mid-September through March 2020.

Revolution Brewing creates La Gargola with rock band Chevelle
Revolution Brewing La Gargola, a collaboration with Illinois based rock band Chevelle, debuts on August 1st.
The band is playing Lollapalooza on debut weekend in Chicago, and ahead of the hometown swing of the tour, Chevelle brewed a Helles lager with folks at Revolution Brewing.
This classic beer, inspired by the German Purity Law of 1516 (aka the Reinheitsgebot), doesn’t rely on weird adjuncts to drive the flavor. Only the 4 ingredients that beer is really about – hops, malt, yeast, and water.

Revolution Brewing La Gargola will hit taps at the brewpub starting August 1st, corresponding with Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago.

Port City Helles Lager has been bottled for the 1st time
Port City Helles Lager has been a draft-only offering in the past – part of the Alexandria, Virginia’s Lager Series.
Despite all you read about “hype” and “gimmicky” beers, well-made lagers are growing in demand amongst craft beer drinkers. Port City obviously knows this and has added their Helles Lager of their “Occasional” lineup, available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles for a brief amount of time.
Helles means “bright” in German.
Our Helles pours a brilliant blond color, showcasing a clean Pilsner and Munich malt sweetness and supported by a subtle Hersbrucker hop character. We are happy to raise a glass of our Helles, and Prost to the everyday drinking beer of Bavaria!
Port City Helles Lager is available in 12-ounce bottles and draft for a limited time starting Friday, June 21st.

Burial Beer Innertube floats in for another summer
Summer is creeping closer and with it, hot weather and cookouts. Don’t enjoy either without Burial Beer Innertube, the brewery’s “All-American” lager.
Inspired by the light lagers of old, Burial Innertube is craft beer’s version of the classic American lager. Believe us when we say, this is a perfect summer slammer. Pairs beautifully with a hotdog hot off the grill, a soak in the pool, sitting on the dock at the lake – pretty much anything.
Brewed with North American barley, corn and rice and lagered carefully, this lager is meant to enjoy all summer long.
Since its initial release, Innertube has added the 16-ounce can format as well. 4 more ounces of summer. Available starting May 19th.

Schlafly releases lager set commemorating Moon landing
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin touched down on the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility. In honor of this achievement, St. Louis, Missouri based Schlafly Brewing is debuting a “spacy” new Lunar Lager 12-pack.
The box set contains 4 different lagers – Lift-Off Lager, Apollo’s Orbit Black Lager, Moon Walk Dunkel, and The Eagle Has Landed American Lager. Lager-style beer was very popular in the 1960’s (thanks to AB, Miller, and Pabst) making the style choice for this commemoration very appropriate.
In the spirit of the ’60s, Schlafly designed the Lunar Lager lineup to reflect the time. The bottle fonts come from popular record albums, including the sans serif font from sci-fi and newspapers. The colors come from 1969 For and General Motors paint chips.

Four styles make up the Lunar Lager beers:
Lift-Off Lager – Unfiltered German Lager, 5.5% ABV 20 IBUs
Apollo’s Orbit Black Lager – 5% ABV, 25 IBUs
Moon Walk Dunkel – Dark, malty German-style lager. 4.5% ABV, 20 IBUs
The Eagle Has Landed American Lager – Golden, refreshing American lager. 5% ABV, 25 IBUs
