Heavy Seas Red Sky At Morning, July

Heavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, MD) is making some new additions to their Uncharted Waters Series. The series kicks off with Siren Noire in January, a fan favorite. Coming this year – Heavy Seas Red Sky at Morning.

The brewery is putting Red Sky at Night, the multiple medal winning saison, into red wine barrels. We’ve been waiting.

A version of our award winning saison ale ale enhanced by aging in wine barrels. The saying goes “red sky at morning, sailors take warning”, but we think there is only good news here for beer lovers!

Other additions to the Uncharted Water Series includes recently released Blackbeard’s Breakfast, and Phantom Ship.

Heavy Seas Red Sky at Morning is available from July to August, 2015.

Preview: Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters Lineup, 2015

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters

Heavy Seas (Baltimore, MD) upgraded the Mutiny Fleet to the Uncharted Waters Series a couple of years ago.

Since then, the series has featured 4-5 offerings a year, each barrel-aged and unique.

The 2015 line is now available, featuring a couple of new faces, plus some familiar “ish” offerings:

  • Siren Noire: Bourbon barrel chocolate imperial stout  (Jan-March)
  • Phantom Ship: Barrel-aged Belgian tripel (available March – April)
  • Blackbeards Breakfast: Coffee-bourbon porter (available May – June)
  • Red Sky at Morning: Belgian-style saison aged in Chardonnay barrels (available July – August)
  • Yule Tide: Gingerbread rum-barrel-aged weizenbock (available November – December)

Siren Noire has been in the Uncharted Waters series since day one. Yule Tide, once a tripel, varies each year. The 2015 “gingerbread” aspect is new for this late 2015 release.

Red Sky at Morning is a spin off of the brewery’s Red Sky at Night saison, aged in Chardonnay wine barrels.

Phantom Ship, and Blackbeard’s Breakfast are completely new.

Quick Look: Heavy Seas Plank III

Heavy Seas Brewing (Baltimore, MD) just re-released the first 2014 offering in the Uncharted Waters Series, Siren Noire.

The 2014 lineup is a lot like 2013, with just a couple of changes. Yuletide’s style will change this year (TBA) plus the third release in the Plank Project.

The Plank Project features beers that showcase special wood aging treatments. (Like wood treated with heat.) Plank III will arrive in July, a Belgian-style Ale aged on Jamaican Allspice wood.

Our newest addition to our Plank Series, the Belgian-style ale is aged over Jamaican Allspice wood to lend bold and spicy flavor to a robust yet drinkable beer.

Look for Plank III in 22oz bombers and limited draft this summer.

Style: Belgian Strong Ale (Oak/Wood Aged)
Arrival: July, 2014 (Tentative)

Plank 1– English Strong Ale, aged on poplar oak

Heavy Seas Bottles 2013 Yule Tide

Heavy Seas (Baltimore, MD) is busy today bottling 2013 Yule Tide. The beer was a Belgian-style tripel in the past before taking a year off.  (I hear it has relatives in Spain.)

In a Beer Street Journal interview with Hugh Sisson earlier this year, he mentioned that Yule Tide will return in the Uncharted Waters Series this year,  with the style changing annually.

This year’s edition is an imperial red ale, brewed with ginger, and aged in Jamaican rum barrels. What’s not to love about this?

Look for this final Uncharted Waters release of this year to hit shelves mid-month.

Style: Imperial Red Ale (w/ Ginger, Barrel AgedRum)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: November, 2013
