A new Trip in the Woods: Sierra Nevada Cocoa Coconut Narwhal

Sierra Nevada Cocoa Coconut Narwhal

Sierra Nevada Cocoa Coconut Narwhal has joined the brewery’s ‘Trip in the Woods’ Series.

Giving fans a chance to see some of Sierra Nevada’s core brands in a new light is key to the ‘Trip in the Woods’ series. The family line has already seen releases like Barrel-Aged Narwhal Imperial Stout with currants, and Ginger Bigfoot (barleywine with ginger root). It’s Narwhal Imperial Stout season once again and along with it, comes a new dessert-inspired offering.

Sierra Nevada Cocoa Coconut Narwhal is on it’s way to shelves around the U.S. and is already proving that chocolate and coconuts really take beer to the next level.

Cocoa Coconut Narwhal uses Sierra Nevada’s popular imperial stout base brewed with toasted coconut and aged in for over a year in bourbon barrels with more toasted coconut and cocoa nibs. Whether you drink it alone, or with your favorite dessert is up to you.

This very special version of our Narwhal Imperial Stout was brewed with toasted coconut and then left to mature in Kentucky Groupon barrels for nearly a year. To the barrels, we added additional coconut and cocoa nibs to create a uniquely rich and decadent stout.

Sierra Nevada Cocoa Coconut Narwhal is available in 25.4-ounce bottles for a limited time.

Style:Imperial Stout (w/ Coconut. Cocoa Nibs. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 25.4oz Bottles

Debut: Late-September 2017

Coconut, Espresso & Sherry barrels: Three Taverns German Chocolate Helm’s Deep

Three Taverns German Chocolate Helm's Deep

This beer was a massive hit at the 2017 Shelton Brothers Festival in Atlanta. On September 1st, Three Taverns German Chocolate Helm’s Deep will be found in bottles for the first time.

Another strong entry in Beer Street Journal’s highly unofficial “dessert beer” category, Three Taverns German Chocolate Helm’s Deep definitely delivers. The 13% alcohol by volume imperial stout has been aging in Sherry barrels and infused with coconut and espresso coffee. Calories don’t count here.

Infused with espresso and toasted coconut before aging in Sherry barrels, this variant of Helm’s Deep produces flavors of German chocolate cake drizzled with coffee and rich Sherry sweetness.

Three Taverns German Chocolate Helm’s Deep will be available in 750-milliliter bottles at the brewery on September 1st.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee. Coconut. Barrel Aged. Sherry.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft. Limited release.
Debut (Bottles): 9/1/17

“Toasted” makes a big difference in The Bruery Mash & Coconut

The Bruery Mash & Coconut

The Bruery Mash & Coconut was once only available to those individuals in the brewery's "Reserve Society" and those lucky friends they shared it with. This latest batch of the coconut heavy barleywine now available to the public. Because good beer is meant to be shared.

In the process of upscaling this recipe, the brewing team was blown away at how much more coconut flavor and depth came from toasted coconut instead of flaked coconut. The next step? Renting commercial ovens to toast 1000s of pounds of the tasty, tropical flakes.

All in all, 400 pounds of in-house roasted coconut went into each batch of Mash & Coconut. Beer Street Journal was on site in Placentia, California when the barrels were emptied in July. You'll see bits of the barrel char and even some coconut chunks on the floor of the brewery in the images below. The smell of coconut and oaky bourbon was delightfully inescapable. Every breath made your mouth water. Back in the taproom, our clothes still had faint hints coconutty oak on them.

The Bruery Mash & Coconut is a limited release, in 750-milliliter bottles.

Style:Barleywine (w/ Coconut. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles
Latest Release: August 2017

Think Mounds candy bar: The Veil Brewing Coconut Hornswoggler

The Veil Brewing Coconut Hornswoggler teaser

The Veil Brewing Coconut Hornswoggler returns to the Richmond, Virginia based brewery’s lineup again on August 8th.

This foray into dessert beer started with the base creation Hornswoggler, a silky, chocolate milk stout. Since then, releases have gotten more and more decadent. French Vanilla, Oreo Cookie, and Bourbon Pecan Peanut Butter Oreos, even one with candy bars have graced the series. August 8th marks the return of  a more tropical (think Mounds candy bar) creation – The Veil Brewing Coconut Hornswoggler.

The base chocolate milk stout has been condition on hundreds of pounds of coconut. The brewery doesn’t half-ass these addtions. When they say coconut, they mean it.

Coconut Hornswoggler is our house 7% robust chocolate milk stout Hornswoggler conditioned on hundreds and hundreds of pounds of coconut. ? Straight up insane! Tastes/smells like a liquid Mounds bar.

The Veil Brewing Coconut Hornswoggler will be available in 16 ounce cans when the brewery opens on August 8th.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Chocolate. Coconut. Lactose.)
Availability: 16oz Cans. Limited Release
Latest Return: 8/8/17

Coconutty summer. Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA debuts this month

Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA

It’s a tropical summer for Delaware’s largest craft brewery. Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA is going national.

The newest India pale ale in founder Sam Calagione’s arsenal is Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA, a coconut heavy offering.

The tropical IPA is brewed with toasted coconut, experimental hops, and dehydrated coconut water. That might sound weird. Dehydrated water? By removing the water content from coconut water, what are left behind are natural sugars, and electrolyte heavy, coconutty compounds and flakes that further enhance this beer.

The hops in Dogfish Head Lupu Luau IPA are quite special as well. The brewery found this experimental variety to have a strong wood, citrus, and coconut flavor. So much so that Dogfish Head contracted the majority of the domestic yield just for themselves (and this beer).

This “tropical trifecta” is available nationally in 12 ounce bottles and draft starting in July.

Style: IPA (w/ Toasted Coconut. Dehydrated Coconut Water.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: July, 2017

7.3% ABV

The Bruery & Funky Buddha’s Pink Snow is ridiculously unique

The Bruery Pink Snow bottles

Later this year, The Bruery has a collaborative release slated for later this year, with Florida’s Funky Buddha Brewery. Until today, we thought there might only be one, but in actuality, there might be two. The first – Guava Libre!. A second potential has surfaced – The Bruery Pink Snow.

Both creations are slated to be cream ales. Guava Libre is inspired by a Cuban guava pastry. The Bruery Pink Snow also carries a dessert vibe, resulting in something more fitting for the SoCal and Florida mild winters – a tropical snow cone.

RELATED: The Bruery Guava Libre

This imperial cream ale features guava, dragonfruit, coconut, and vanilla beans, turned creamy smooth with the addition of lactose.

The result is so damn tropical. Vanilla and coconut subtley dominate the beer, which is creamy and quite unique. It’s a fruity tropical dessert that would be just a fantastic over shaved ice at a carnival. Probably one of the most unique beers we’ve tasted in a long, long while.

Since our collective exposure to the wet wintry elements is minimal, we at The Bruery® and Funky Buddha decided to create our own version of snow – something pink and tropical -that we can play in as temperatures start to arm. Championing the big, bold flavors our breweries are known for, we brewed an imperial cream ale, then added lactose and vanilla for sweetness, and guava, dragonfruit and coconut for a vibrant, tropical vibe.

The Bruery Pink Snow is slated for 750 milliliter bottles, debuting in the brewery’s taproom starting June 6th. No distribution.

Style: Imperial Cream Ale (w/ Guava. Dragonfruit. Coconut. Vanilla Beans. Lactose.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.
Debut: 6/6/17

7.5% ABV
