Wild Leap expands Truck Chaser series with “Bomb Pop”

Wild Leap Truck Chaser Bomb Pop Can

Wild Leap Bomb Pop Double IPA is the second release in the brewery’s Truck Chaser Series as May winds down.

This ice cream themed series started earlier this year with Creamsicle Double IPA, brewed with orange, vanilla, and lactose. This second release is inspired by another popular ice cream of summer, the Bomb Pop. The tri-flavored popsicle was invented in Kansas City, Missouri in 1955. National Bomb Pop Day is celebrated on the last Thursday in June.

Wild Leap Bomb Pop Double IPA features the iconic “bomb” flavors of lime, cherry, and raspberry, brewed with lactose. Did they do it? They damn well did. Every sip tastes like a mind-bendingly weird blend of hops and ice cream. Seriously, your tastebuds and your brain fight each other on what this beer is until the alcohol hits your brain and stops caring and just wants more.

Available in 12-ounce cans and draft for a limited time starting the last week of May 2019.

Style: Imperial IPA (Milkshake IPA) w/ Lime. Cherry. Raspberry. Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: Late May 2019

Black Forest Cake inspired: The Bruery Geburtstagskranz

The Bruery Geburtstagskranz

German chocolate cake in a can? This is it. The Bruery Geburtstagskranz 2019 is now available.

It’s no secret that The Bruery loves big flavorful beers, and this oddly named release is no different. If our German is even close to correct, Geburtstagskranz means “birthday wreath”. The wreath is typically a decorated wooden circle where candles are lit instead of putting them on the birthday cake.

While that tradition is typically for kids, this beer is definitely for adults. The base beer is an imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels with vanilla, cacao nibs, and tart cherries. The Bruery describes this release as “rich, with notes of sweet vanilla, chocolate, and tart juicy cherries”.

The Bruery Geburtstagskranz 2019 is available in 16oz cans ($12) and 4-packs ($42) each. Limited release.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Vanilla Beans. Cacao Nibs. Tart Cherries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 16oz Cans. Limited Release.
Debut: Early May 2019

New Yeti Sighting: Great Divide Chocolate Cherry Yeti

Great Divide Chocolate Cherry Yeti

Great Divide Chocolate Cherry Yeti is the latest “Yeti” to join the on-going series.

The Denver, Colorado-based brewery’s Yeti Imperial Stout is easily one of the most well-known for the style in the U.S. Since its inception, the “Yeti Clan” as the brewery calls it, has grown to include Oak Aged, Chai Yeti, Vanilla Oak Aged Yeti, and Barrel Aged Yeti. As 2019 gets rolling, Great Divide has released a new edition – Cherry Chocolate Yeti.

This release uses the epic Yeti Imperial Stout base and blends sour cherries and cacao nibs.

The roasty malt backbone of Yeti melds perfectly with the cherries and cacao to make this one a smooth sipper. A Yeti in a cherry orchard can be a great thing!

Great Divide Chocolate Cherry Yeti is available in 12-ounce bottles and draft.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Cocoa Nibs. Cherries.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Late January 2019

Dogfish Head launches full-scale wild ale program this month with “KnottyBits”

Dogfish Head KnottyBits

Delaware-based Dogfish Head has released a few sour ales in the past, starting with Festina Lente nearly 15 years ago. That wild ale won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup in 2006. Let’s not forget current heavy seller SeaQuench Ale, America’s best selling sour according to the brewery. On September 29th, Dogfish KnottyBits will inaugurate the brewery’s full-scale American Wild Ale program – “Wooden…it Be Nice?”

KnottyBits has spent a year in wood barrels with Brettanomyces yeast, aged on 700 pounds of sweet and sour cherries plus rhubarb from Fifer Orchards. That equates to nearly 2 pounds of cherries per gallon.

Additionally,  the brewery has announced two more wild ale releases in the new series:

  • Wet Hop American Summer (November) – a Farmhouse Ale (7.75% ABV),  this beer was aged in freshly emptied Chardonnay barrels with Brettanomyces for over a year, before being racked onto freshly harvested and hand-selected whole leaf Citra hops, still wet from the fields.
  • Eastern Seaboard (December) Wild ale (8% ABV) brewed with blackberries and beach plums.  After spending almost a year and a half aging in wine barrels, the liquid was met with several hundred pounds of blackberry and Eastern Shore beach plums, handpicked and selected by the brewers.

2000 Dogfish Head KnottyBits 375-milliliter bottles will be available at the brewery on September 29th at the brewery starting at 11 am.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Cherries. Rhubarb.)
Availability: 375ml Bottles, Corked & Caged
Debut: 9/29/18

Ommegang Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons up next in series

Ommegang Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons

Ommegang Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons joins the brewery’s Game of Thrones Series in late September.

As the world continues to wait on George RR Martin’s sixth book (for years now), as well as HBO’s 8th season of the live action show, Brewery Ommegang continues to deliver beers inspired by the series. This September is dedicated to the “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys Targaryen.

This release is a blend of a smoked porter and Belgian Kriek, meant to be a representation of smoke and fire, found in the wake of Daenerys as she fights for her place on the Iron Throne. Ommegang describes this release as having “a rich with tart cherry up front leading to a center palate of semi-sweet chocolate then resolving to subtle smoke and mild sweetness.”

“Mother of Dragons represents in beer one of our favorite characters from Game of Thrones. Daenerys’s ascent from obscurity has been one of the most inspiring storylines of the show, and we’re thrilled to release a blend that embodies the character traits that have underpinned that rise.” – Doug Campbell, Brewery Ommegang president.

Ommegang Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons will be available in 750-milliliter bottles starting on September 28th.

Style: Smoked Porter/Kriek Blend (w/ Cherries)
Availability:750ml Bottles
