Terrapin Tree Hugger Goes Year Round In March

Terrapin Tree Hugger

Terrapin Beer Co (Athens, GA) created Tree Hugger last year for Decatur, Georgia’s Green Fest in support of the Dogwood Alliance. Terrapin brewmaster “Spike” started a love affair with the altbier style on a trip to Germany. The style originated in Dusseldorf. Spike came home to Athens, Georgia to create a hoppier play off this style.  A hoppy altbier named Tree Hugger. Draft offerings extended beyond the festival to tap handles around Georgia due to it’s popularity.

In 2013, Terrapin will promote Tree Hugger to year round status. It is actually the first brew on this week in the new 100 Barrel brewhouse. Look for it on draft and it bottles starting in March, 2013.

Style: Altbier

Brewer’s Alley Wedding Alt Beer

Brewer's Alley Wedding Alt BeerThe Wedding Alt is patterned after the alt beer from Düsseldorf, Germany. It has a subtle hop aroma from dry-hopping and a clean, light taste. The crisp dryness is derived largely from the use of Munich malts in the grist. Caramel and chocolate malts were also used. It’s designed as a mild beer and should go well with almost any food.

Terrapin Releasing “Tree Hugger” In April

Terrapin Beer Company will release a draft only beer in April dubbed “Tree Hugger.”  There’s a little backstory on this one.

Terrapin’s Spike Buckowski got pretty friendly with the altbier style on a recent trip to Germany.  Altbiers originated in Dusseldorf, Germany and are malty-nutty in flavor.  Tree Hugger will play off this style, but a little hoppier.  A hoppy altbier.

Some of the proceeds of Tree Hugger will benefit Decatur Green Fest.   The fest is a free concert on the Decatur Courthouse Square featuring local and regional musical artists benefitting the Dogwood Alliance and the Oakhurst Community Garden Project.

Style: Altbier
Availability: Draft only
Arrival: April, 2012 (Tentative)
