Terrapin Doubling Capacity, Adding Jobs

Terrapin celebrates 10 years this Saturday.  On the eve of their anniversary, the brewery is in the process of expanding the overall capacity.  The expansion doesn’t come a minute too soon, as the brewery hasn’t been able to keep up.

Over dinner last fall, I asked John Cochran about the state of affairs at the brewery.  The orders for Terrapin products are nearly 1/3 more than they were currently producing.  Crude numbers looked like this – Production 19,000 barrels.  Demand: Close to 30,000 barrels.   Not a bad position to be in.… Read the rest

Terrapin’s Mathematical 10th Anniversary Ale

Terrapin Beer Co celebrates 10 years in April, 2012.  As promised by the brewery, the label contains a mathematical equation.  The guy you see there is Leonard Euler, and his equation,  Euler’s Identity.   Many mathematically inclined tout his identity equation as one of the most beautiful in the world.  Beautiful?  Totally.  Euler’s Identity combines 5 math constants, and 3 arithmetic operations.  It’s pretty fascinating if you’re into that kind of thing.  (Don’t worry, you don’t have to do the math as you can see.)

Here’s the beer equation: Chouffe yeast, coriander, 2 types of orange peel, chamomile, nelson sauvin hops.… Read the rest

Jerome & Spikes 2011 Barley Ryne (US Edition)

Meet the American edition of Spike & Jerome’s Barley Ryne.  As you may remember, last year Terrapin collaborated with Brasserie BFM in Switzerland.  The result was a sour/tart rye based barleywine aged in rum barrels and imported to the U.S. by BFM.

Above is the U.S. label, for a version of the barley wine that is a blend of 2/3 ale and 1/3 ale that has been aging in bourbon barrels at the Terrapin brewery in Athens, Georgia.  Note the name transposition to Jerome & Spikes.  Terrapin  is currently deciding when this version will be released.… Read the rest

Terrapin To Drop Gamma Ray, Rye Squared. Considers Barrel Aging

Terrapin Brewing has enjoyed pretty much exponential growth since their inception in 2002.  Here in 2011, the brewery has a strong demand in the markets they are currently in.   How much demand?

BSJ interviewed John Cochran, Co-Founder of Terrapin.  Here’s what’s coming up with our favorite turtle:

Distributor have but in orders for 30,000 barrels, when Terrapin can only produce just shy of 20,000.  A great situation to be in.   With this in mind, the the brewery will not be entering an new markets in the next 2-3 years.  The next few years will be dedicated to meeting demand.… Read the rest
