Dogfish Head Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout will return

Dogfish Head Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout

When Dogfish Head and Boston Beer merged, it was big news. After the dust settled, we were left wondering what’s next. Will it just be Sam Adams and Dogfish Head, independently but together? The sales team for Dogfish Head grew by more than 400%, and there was talk of seeing the Boston Beer logo on Dogfish Head, and vice versa. All that is just boilerplate business stuff.

Then this surfaced –  Dogfish Head Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout.

The combination of those two things might make you a little dizzy. Besides 120 Minute IPA, World Wide Stout is one of Dogfish Head’s strongest beers.

Sam Adams Utopias is a blended strong ale born and blended from a plethora of barrels, hovers around 27% alcohol by volume, and runs around $200 dollars a bottle.

Dogfish Head rested World Wide Stout for 7 months in freshly emptied Utopias barrels. Combining these two beers creates something boozy, rare, and special. If you missed the first release in March of 2020, the brewery has bottled another round.

Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout, a jet-black, rich and roasty beer with balanced notes of espresso, cocoa, sherry and vanilla.

Like we said last year, it’s one hell of a way to intercompany collaborate.

Dogfish Head Utopias Barrel-Aged Utopias World Wide Stout will be available again soon, an actual release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel-Aged)
Availability: 12oz Bottles. Limited Release, Delaware Only.
Debut: 3/27/20
Latest Return: Fall 2021

17.3% ABV

Samuel Adams already sees the Bruins win, plans Black & Gold

Samuel Adams Black & Gold

Not going to lie. When we first saw the Black and Gold name, it seemed a little Steelers like to us. Black & yellow? Black & Gold? Whatever. Today, artwork prematurely surfaced for Samuel Adams Black & Gold, aimed at celebrating the Boston Bruins winning the (still in play) Stanley Cup.

Now, it’s no secret that breweries need to get artwork into the government ahead of time, but for any hardcore sports fan, you never want to jinx it.

The talking heads on sports networks heavily favor the Boston Bruins, who have actually won the Stanley Cup in recent memory. The Saint Louis Blues, an underdog by default, is the oldest active NHL team that has never touched The Cup.

More importantly, one of the most famous goals in NHL history game out of the Bruins and Blues on May 10, 1970. Bobby Orr, the Bruins defenseman, scored in overtime to win the Stanley Cup the Boston team for the first time since 1941. Orr was tripped by defensemen Noel Picard, and thanks to photographer Ray Lussier, the rest is history.

As for Black & Gold, the beer is a 16-ounce black lager, brewed in Pennsylvania that already has two NHL teams perpetually locked in a bloodbath.

Right now, the Blues lead in Game 3, as the Bruins have a 2-1 lead in the best of 7.

Still… this has to sting a bit for Blues fans. Perhaps in 2019 they will make history.

A union of ale & lager, Sam Adams ’76 is a fantastic session beer

Sam Adams 76 Can

It might be hard to imagine an ale and a lager meshed together in a single beer. Especially since beer is pretty divided into one of those two categories. As it turns out, a fusion of the two styles can be pretty amazing as we just learned with Sam Adams ’76.

The brewers at Boston Beer Company used two active fermentations, one for a lager and one for an ale to create Sam Adams ’76. The idea is to blend the “fruitiness” of an ale with the smoothness of a lager. Sound a little odd? We thought so too.

The year of experimenting (around 60 iterations according to the brewery) was well worth it. Sam Adams ’76 is one of the best session beers we’ve tried in a long time. ‘76 pours a light gold/straw flavor and looks almost creamy at first splash. Imagine something like a pale ale brewed with Cascade, Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops blended with a crisp lager. Yeah, it’s hard to piece together that flavor. That’s why trying this beer is a must. This hybrid beer compliments a wide range of food, those days when you start day drinking early, or just a break from a hefty IPA or stout session with friends. Easy drinking, clean, refreshing, all those buzz words are applicable here.

In our minds, this beer is definitely a win.

Sam Adams ’76 is available in 12-ounce cans now, draft in April 2018.

Style: Light Lager (Hybrid Beer)
Hops: Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, Cascade
Availability: 12oz Cans. Draft (April). Year-Round
Debut: January 2018

4.7% ABV

Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Collaboration features 5 breweries

Samuel-Adams-Brewing-the-American-Dream-Collaboration

Boston, Massachusetts based Boston Beer Company is releasing a new collaboration pack, features five different breweries across the United States.

The limited release 12-pack appropriately named The Brewing the American Dream Collaboration Pack. Each of the collaborators are a part of Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream, a philanthropic initiative. The program provides loans and coaching to craft brewers and small business owners working toward the “American Dream” of small business ownership.

Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream 12-pack contains creations from Bosque Brewing (Albuquerque, NM), ChuckAlek Independent Brewers (Ramona, CA), Woods Beer Co. ( San Francisco, CA), Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge, CO), and Roc Brewing (Rochester, NY).

  • Desert Kaleidoscope IPA – w/ Bosque Brewing. pays homage to the Albuquerque balloon fiesta and features a mixture of flavors including citrus, tangerine, pine and honey malt to create a brew with a bold, hoppy aroma. With a 7.0% ABV, Desert Kaleidoscope is a deep amber, medium-bodied brew that leaves a clean touch of lingering bitterness on the palate.
  • Time Hop Porter – w/ ChuckAlek Independent Brewers. Driven by co-founders Grant Fraley and Marta Jankowska’s mission of creating “Old School Beers for New School Palates,” Time Hop Porter utilizes Zeus, Chinook, Cascade and Goldings hops and is 5.3% ABV. The hop character is balanced by three malt varieties: Sam Adams pale two-row blend, Crisp Brown, and Black malt. This porter has strong notes of citrus and pine that are balanced by a smooth, roasted malt character.
  • ThreeNinety Bock – w/Roc Brewing Co.ThreeNinety Bock is a slightly roasted Maibock with a sweet toffee and light caramel flavor, crafted from four hop varieties, combined with rye malt and oak smoked malt. Mosaic and Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops provide the balance that gives this dark golden bock a big, juicy character and slightly sweet and dry finish. ThreeNinety is a nod to the distance in miles between Boston and Rochester.
  • Boston Tea Party Saison – w/ Wood Beer Co. Boston Tea Party Saison is a bi-coastal twist on the classic Belgian style, combining Woods’s Yerba mate-infused saison with Sam Adams’ wild yeast blend, Kosmic Mother Funk. Mate’s earthy spice plays on the rippling, fruity haze of KMF’s funky bacteria, and gives a signature snap to the amber saison’s traditional dry finish.
  • Oats McGoats Stout – w/ Brewery Rickoli. Oats McGoats is an American stout brewed based on founder and brewer Rick Abitbol’s commitment to brewing full-flavored, gluten-reduced beers (if they didn’t say it, you wouldn’t know). At 6.5% ABV, the full-bodied, moderately carbonated beer is accented by earthy, spicy flavors and a hint of roasted coffee notes.

The 6th offering is Boston Lager, originally a collaboration with founder Jim Koch and his father, using his great-great grandfather’s recipe.

Samuel Adams The Brewing the American Dream Collaboration Pack will be available nationally starting in late-July, 2017. Estimate retail price $16.99 to $19.99.
