Red Brick changes names back to Atlanta Brewing Company again

Atlanta Brewing Company Refresh 2018

Georgia’s oldest craft brewery started 25 years ago as Atlanta Brewing Company. Then a few years back, the brewery adopted the name Red Brick Brewing. Today, they are making a change again, back to Atlanta Brewing Company.

“The craft beer market has changed significantly over the last several years and we felt it was important to highlight the changes and improvements that we’ve made here at the brewery,” says brewery President Garett Lockhart. Red Brick has changed a lot over the course of the double decades they have been brewing in Atlanta. Years ago, the taproom was a crimson red, had between 6 and 8 taps, and an original XBox.

These days, Hollywood movies have been filmed in the updated taproom that now has 20 taps, with a beer lineup never seen at Atlanta Brewing Company before.

Even today, the taproom is getting another touchup to celebrate the new future.

CODO, an Indianapolis, Indiana based creative agency was selected for the branding updates. The Atlanta Brewing Company logo and core canned products, including new Hartsfield IPA, will have a new look going forward.

Atlanta Brewing Company is hosting a re-branding party on August 31st. Additionally, the brewery has collaborated with local breweries around Georgia in celebration of 25 years.

Red Brick Airbrush Daydream introduces the “Myrtle Beach IPA”

Red Brick Airbrush Daydream cans

Breakout those tacky-ass beach shirts. Red Brick Airbrush Daydream is coming this month.

The Atlanta based brewery jokingly subtitles this release a “Myrtle Beach Style IPA”. Funny now, but watch it become an actual beer style. After all, you can pretty much thank social media turning New England IPA into a hoppy juggernaut.

While New England is home to haze, the “Myrtle Beach Style” IPA is a tart one. Red Brick brews this release with Citra, Mosaic, and Topaz hops. If a surf shop t-shirt could be a beer, this is probably it.

Red Brick Airbrush Daydream will be available when the brewery opens on March 15th, in 16-ounce 4-packs.

Style: IPA
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Topaz

Availability: 16oz Cans. Limited Release.
Debut: 3/15/18

Red Brick No New Friends draws a crowd, & new fans

Red Brick No New Friends, an imperial IPA collaboration with The Wrecking Bar has debuted.

Before taking on the role as Red Brick’s Director of Brewing Operations, Gavin McKenna worked and brewed for years with Neal Engleman at nearby Wrecking Bar. They’ve been friends for a while now, nothing new there – which we’re pretty sure is the inspiration behind the name – No New Friends.

“We used a few thousand dollars worth of hops,” Engleman jokes. “Folks better like it.”

No New Friends is everything about hop heavy, dank imperial IPAs that are in high demand. The near instant line at the bar when the brewery opened is all the validation you need. Beer fans that might have slept on Red Brick before aren’t anymore.

The 8% alcohol by volume hop bomb is hopped during primary fermentation with Citra and Mosaic hops, then dry hopped with Azacca, Vic Secret, plus a heavy dose Citra and Mosaic cryo powder. Basically, this IPA is hoppy AF.

That expensive hop bill is built on a malt bill of 2-Row, flaked oats, malted oats, spelt malt and lactose. Hoppy AF, hazy, and with a smooth, almost creamy finish. Simply put, a fantastic collaboration.

Red Brick No New Friends is available in 16-ounce cans in the brewery’s tap room.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Lactose)
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Azacca, Vic Secret
Malts: 2-Row, Flaked Oats, Malted Oats, Spelt

Debut: 2/1/18

8% ABV

Strap in, Red Brick Journey Without Maps is just the start of great things

Red Brick Journey Without Maps can

Red Brick Journey Without Maps Double IPA is a gamechanger for Atlanta’s oldest brewery. Every drop in this can marks the start of the beginning of something new for the first brewery on Atlanta’s Westside.

The name might very well be an allusion to their decades of brewing in the Empire State of the South, and their every-so-often bumpy path that brings us to today. Red Brick Brewing’s (or, the artist formerly known as Atlanta Brewing Company) journey might have needed a map at times, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t exactly where they need to be now.

If you think of the city’s brew scene like a high school lunch table, you have the hipsters (Monday Night Brewing), the hippies (SweetWater), the artistic kids (Wild Heaven), band geeks (Orpheus), and the video game playing nerds of Red Brick. They’ve always done their own thing and we have a real soft spot for that. After this release, it might be hard to call these folks the “nerds” anymore.

California native and brewmaster Garett Lockhart was named President of the brewery back in 2015. Hailing from a state that not only boasts more than 500 breweries but sets the bar high for the rest of America’s breweries, there was no doubt he was going bring that flair to Atlanta’s oldest. In the beer industry, change is good. Really good.

Hitting the gas pedal on the future didn’t stop at Lockhart, but it was also the recent addition of Gavin McKenna as the Director of Brewing Operations. He spent years working with Neal Engleman at nearby Wrecking Bar. With McKenna at the kettle, the future is bright.

Red Brick Journey Without Maps Double IPA is a fantastic example of what’s coming from this brewery. It’s a massive departure from the India pale ales you’ve seen from Red Brick. This new kid features Citra, Eukanot, and Denali hops, with a touch of wheat a flaked oats; very embodiment of the “modern IPA” with a huge hoppy nose, a wave of tropical juicy hops, and soft but slightly bitter finish. Do you want haze? Red Brick literally has this marked on a map. Just find the tap room.

Redbrick Journey Without Maps Double IPA will be available in 16-ounce cans at the brewery starting December 7th (a day that still lives in infamy).

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Citra, Eukanot, Denali
Malts: 2 Row, Wheat, Flaked Oats

Debut: 12/7/17

8.1% ABV
