Cigar City Brandy Barrel Hunaphu

Is Cigar City Brewing gearing up for another Barrel Aged Hunahpu release day?  Looks that way.   Last year on 9/24/11, the Tampa based brewery released 3 barrel aged variations of the highly touted imperial stout: Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rum.   A new one has surfaced –  Brandy Barrel Aged Hunahpu.

Stout aged on Peruvian cacao nibs, ancho and pasilla chilies, cinnamon, and Madagascar vanilla beans.  Aged in brandy barrels. Bottled in 2012.

First Look At Cigar City Cans

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) will be canning by the end of the year. (If not sooner.)  The brewery purchased the old canning line from New Belgium after their recent $8 million canning line upgrade.

The pictures here are from Cigar City’s recent trip to Colorado to visit the can manufacturing giant Ball Corporation.  These are the first look at the prototypes the cans Cigar City will produce. Cigar City Homefront IPA For Wounded Heroes

Cigar City Brewing is among one of six breweries participating in “Hops For Heroes.” The collective series of beers raises funds for Operation Homefront, a charity that provides financial assistance to the families of wounded service members.   The participating breweries include: Cigar City, Sly Fox, Perennial Artisanal Ales, 21st Amendment, St. Arnold, & Fremont Brewing.  The idea for these beers came from MLB pitcher Chris Ray, Fremont Brewing, & COTU Brewing in Seattle, Washington last year.  Each of the beers is aged on wood bats donated by Louisville Slugger.

Cigar City Barrel Aged Church On A Hill

Cigar City Brewing’s recent collaboration with Swamp Head (Church On A Hill/Roosevelt)  will see some barrel aging.   In case you’re wondering why the Nirvana-esque smily face guy is wearing a hat, the brewery was forced to remove Winston Churchill’s image from the label at the request of his estate (for the original.)  This barleywine is aged in cognac barrels.

Cigar City El Murcielago For The “Year Of The Bat”

105 days ago, Cigar City Brewing mentioned they were tequila barrel aging Double Cream Ale.  The result is El Murcielago (the bat).  They didn’t stop at tequila aging. They through in lime peel and cumin for good measure.

The bat (or “el murcielago”) had a very important role in the making of this beer. Our winged furry friends were responsible for the pollination of blue agave plants, which of course leads to tequila. That tequila was aged in barrels,and those barrels were eventually emptied and found their way to our brewery. Read the rest
