Port/Lost Abbey Launches The Hop Concept Brewing

Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey have spent the last 8 years building two unique brands/portfolios. Starting in 2015, expect a third concept – The Hop Concept Brewing.

The Hop Concept Brewing will focus on India Pale Ales, released quarterly.

“The team and I are pumped to create four new hoppy beers, working with hop combinations that we’ve never tried before” said Matt Webster, Lead Brewer for Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey. “IPA’s have historically been a specialty of ours, so the chance to hone our skills even more has all the brewers fired up!”

First up is the Hop Freshener Series, subtitled “Uncomplicated Hoppy Beers from the people who know how to make them.” For each release, the names are the flavors and aroma of the beer. The release lineup for 2015 looks like this:

  • Dank and Sticky IPA (February)
  • Citrus and Piney IPA (May)
  • Lemon and Grassy IPA (August)
  • Tropical and Juicy IPA (November)

Each release is quarterly, meant to be purchased and consumed fresh in 22oz bottles, and limited draft. The brewery hopes this new ambitious lineup helps people understand the nuances and flavors of craft beer’s most popular style, IPA.

Look for The Hop Concept Brewing and The Freshener Series across Lost Abbey and Port Brewing’s distribution network starting in February, 2015.

Lost Abbey Releasing New Tequila Aged Seasonal

Agave Maria is a strong ale brewed with agave nectar, and then aged in both Anejo and Reposado barrels for 10 months.

People Want Beer! Duck Duck Gooze Sales Crash Server

Screen Shot 2013-08-08 at 2.58.38 PM

Today, tickets to purchase Lost Abbey’s Duck Duck Goose were supposed to go on sale. That didn’t go so well. The instant the link went live, the server crashed. Hard. Of course, that annoyed the fans clamoring for the brew. As you can see, they are working on a solution, and no tickets have been sold yet.

Nexternal eCommerce, the online sales solution, was unable to handle the traffic. Both Lost Abbey and Nexternal are working on a fix.

In the meantime, do you see this happening more and more in the craft beer industry? Ticket sales not going well, servers crashing? What do you see as a viable tech solution?

Saison Blanc Coming To Bottles

Lost Abbey Saison Blanc

Lost Abbey doing a saison? Shocking right? Sarcasm aside, the above is Saison Blanc, an homage to farmers. We are getting close to harvest season, a physically rough time for those who work the fields, making the grain in your brew. Brewed with golden raisins and white pepper.

Its honest brutal work out there in the fields. There’s no shade between you and the land needing to be farmed. Harvest time brings longer days spent toiling under the fiery sun as sweat and dust make mud cakes on your face. All day every day. It’s always the same. Been that way for years and it’s not changing anytime soon. Your family has been turning this soil since your daddy was knee high to the grasshoppers and your son will soon learn the importance of this earthen existence as well. Someday, he’ll pass your work ethic on to his son. And the pulse of this land will continue beating. Without families and farms there would be no crops. Without barley there would be no beer. Neither is a world we want to live in. So as you CAREFULLY pop this cork, please pause to reflect on those who reap what they sow enabling, us to have amazing bottles of beer at the end of each day.

Style: Saison (Golden RaisinsWhite Pepper)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles, Corked & Caged. Draft.
